50th Anniversary

50th Anniversary
So, the 50th Anniversary of the NHL awarding St. Louis a franchise was on the 9th.
Here are the logos released by 4 of the 5 remaining teams from the expansion six:
A lot of people were disappointed with the Blues logo. So I made one.
Odd that the Stars didn't submit one. No news on their site about it or anything.

Re: 50th Anniversary
It's essentially the Super Bowl 50 logo with a Blue Note in front of it. I'm pretty disappointed. Honestly, it feels as if they put the skeleton crew in charge of the Rams marketing this past season in charge of this too.

Yours looks great Curt. Really not feeling the official one (if that is the official one).
As far as the stars seems to that they are sticking with their own identity in Dallas, probably see a throwback warm up jersey, but they don't seem like they are wanting to participate in the 1967 shenanigans.

Re: 50th Anniversary
The Dallas franchise is technically four combined franchises, the North Stars, Seals, Barons and Stars. So which one would they identify with?
The Minnesota North Stars and the Oakland/California Golden Seals are the two missing franchises. The Seals merged with the North Stars after being the Cleveland Barons for a few years; a decade and change later the Stars move to Dallas.
I think it's better that they stay the Dallas Stars with their own identity, owning a Stanley Cup and having their own storied run to the Cup, than it is to try and sport two patches for two long dead franchises. Time has moved on and if you want to get technical, the Wild and the Sharks are the spiritual successors for the two 'lost franchises'; the Wild because they're in Minny and the Sharks because the Gund family, the same family that moved the Seals out of Cali, created the expansion Sharks here.
This is one of those few times I say let sleeping history lay.

I don't hate ours, but Curt's is way better than any of the 4 official ones. That was really well done.

Re: 50th Anniversary
I don't think they would have to identify with any one specific team. They can just celebrate the history of the franchise in general.Oaklandblue wrote:The Dallas franchise is technically four combined franchises, the North Stars, Seals, Barons and Stars. So which one would they identify with?
They wouldn't have had to do a ton of stuff. They could have made a logo to slap on stuff and put together a nice write up for their website and maybe had a short ceremony before a game to recognize the history of the franchise. Sell shirts and pucks in the gift shop with the logo on it, etc.
It's a rather interesting history and shouldn't just be ignored altogether. It's an opportunity to publicly educate your fan base as well...as I bet most Stars fans don't know the full history of how the Dallas Stars came to be. Sure, they can look it up online, but let's be honest...few actually do that.

And I think the official one looks a little better on a dark background than a light background...but with that said, it still sucks.
Some people are calling it "minimalist", but minimalist design has to be creatively simple, almost brilliantly so. All the official logo is, is our logo slapped on top of "50". There is nothing creative about it. You aren't saying more with less here, you're saying less with less...and that's not minimalist design.

I guess with the official logo, I look at it and I literally think to myself, they honestly couldn't have done any less with this logo. It's like they told someone they wanted a logo for the Blues 50th anniversary...and so the final design is a Blues logo with a plain 50 behind it.
The absolute bare minimum. It's not ugly...it's just so weak and boring, like there was absolutely no effort at all put into it.
Sorry...I'm a designer, this kind of crap just bugs me.

Re: 50th Anniversary
Wow. Agree with most here-the Blues' logo is easily the weakest. Yours is seriously superior, Curt.
Well, the North Stars and Stars as well as the Seals and Barons were really single franchises-you could say four "teams" I guess but, you know. It basically looks like the league isn't wanting to highlight that two of the second six moved and one folded. I can understand that.Oaklandblue wrote:The Dallas franchise is technically four combined franchises, the North Stars, Seals, Barons and Stars. So which one would they identify with?

Re: 50th Anniversary
I think the typical Dallas fan would say it doesn't matter because 'their' Stars are the ones who won the Cup and for them, the Golden Years was with Hitch at the helm, Belfour in goal and the likes of Hull and Modano on the ice.cprice12 wrote:I don't think they would have to identify with any one specific team. I am curious if Dallas was extended the invitation to have a patch or if the NHL restricted it to teams that still existed as their original team. I honestly think the later is the case in this one. And to throw my two cents in, all of those logos look like they were done in 60 seconds or less.
