Elliott/Allen. There you go.
Stop trying to save the Miller trade. Let him walk, keep the pick that matters and chalk it up to experience. Anything else is just going to be even worse asset management than we're already at now with that situation.
All this talk about Miller, Hiller, etc. We keep getting the same end result: We're not getting the scoring. There's nothing wrong about playoff Elliott. Everyone can hammer on him for the regular season, sure, but in the playoffs, Elliott has been money for us. I'd rather him kick it up when it counts.
We're not going to get a Quick or some top end netminder without spending elite scoring money, so please let that go. If we were having problems with other areas, I'd be more in agreeance, but the area that's killed us beyond the PP has been scoring. The last few years, in fact.
But we're still looking down other avenues for goaltending? There's something wrong with this picture.
I'm fine with that combo. I'm fine with just about any of the goaltending solutions that have been tossed around over the last week (Miller, Hiller, Elliott), provided the team also does something to address scoring.
So then that begs the question- which do we address first? Do we see what offensive talent we can lock up, then see how much money that leaves to address goaltending? Or do we sign one of the aforementioned goalies, and see what forwards are available that we can afford after that?
The first need is scoring. There are several options at goal, but we absolutely cannot let scoring slip through the cracks.
However, I'm not sure the timing of one needs to impact the other. I think we have room to give Miller $6 mil AND get an elite scorer. Not saying we will land both or that Miller is the correct decision. All I'm saying is that from a budget standpoint, I don't think the two should impact each other. We have a bunch of money coming off the books and the salary cap is going up almost $7 mil.

Hehe you mean based on how his defense just leaves him hanging out to dry? Stops a breakaway, only to have the guy regain the puck and pass it to a wide-open guy at the side..

Yeah but the kid needs time ease him in slow. He's still the best AHL goalie this year. No help from his team just like the Blues.

Bingo.
I am dumbfounded at the number of people who want to just plop him in as the #1 next year. Cusamano tweeted that exact thing after the Blues were eliminated...saying that Miller's failure to get the Blues deep into the playoffs may have cemented Allen as the Blues starter next year.
Uhhh...what? No Frank. Stay away from hockey...stick to high school basketball.

I agree. As a fan, I'd rather the organization bring him along too slow as opposed to throwing him in there and speeding up/possibly harming his development. If the Blues choose to go with the Elliott/Allen combo (or anyone but Miller, really), let the other guy take the larger number of starts but still give Allen plenty of work. It's not all on his shoulders and yet he gets quality minutes.

I'm not against Allen being the starter at some point...but he has to prove he can put up great numbers in the NHL. And he hasn't proven that yet.
Yes, he could come in next year and play lights out. That could happen. But until that does happen, he has to be considered a lock for the backup slot...and ONLY the backup slot next year.

You can't use reason here...
I totally agree he should be the backup and unless he does play lights out, he should get around 20-25 games against softer teams. Ells still has to prove he's the #1.
