I think I just heard that it's elbow inflammation. Not sure if that's credible or not though.
Not sure how Gast has been of late, but last I heard, he had thrown 29 scoreless innings to start the season in Memphis.

I'm not as well versed on all the Cards prospects like I am with the Blues. What kind of pitcher is Gast? Another power arm or more of a finesse or groundball type pitcher?

Re: Westbrook on DL, Gast called up
I don't know a ton about him. He's a 24yo lefty out of Florida State (I was thinking Arkansas for some reason). This year he has 8.1K/9 which is pretty good and a 2.69 K/BB ratio, and it looks like he has allowed 5ER in his last 9.2IP (his only 5ER of the year).
I've heard a lot of people apply the typical Cardinal injury formula to this and speculate it's TJ surgery, but I don't think that's going to be it for some reason. I should know better than to trust Mozeliak on on injury, but he said that it's early in the year and we have lots of depth to reward somebody for a good start to the season. That actually makes sense to me. It's mid-May and we have a couple of pitchers tearing it up in AAA. So, I could see this being a 3-4 start thing.

Apparently he has a really good pick off move. Somebody on a Cardinal board said that he has something like 35 pickoffs in the past 3 years and 5 this year.

I'm interested to see what he can do. It's crazy how many quality arms keep coming up through the ranks for the Cardinals. Early part of the 2000's, we were lucky to have 1 or 2 guys in the pipeline to look forward to each year. Now it's a yearly occasion where guys are promoted due to injury or what have you, and they make an impact.
