Where's your money going?

Post by F Keenan »

I haven't been on the board in a while. The reason is simple, the lockout. While I can't wait for the NHL to get back on the ice, I've turned my attention elsewhere. I'm supplementing my hockey fix by watching college hockey and European soccer (Cue Glenn A Richter's rant about why soccer sucks). We still have a good amount of NFL football left. I am sure everyone else is finding something else to watch on tv in place of NHL hockey. My question is, what is everyone else spending their money on? I would have gone to at least 3 or 4 games by this point of the season. I figure $80 in tickets upstairs, $20 for parking, $60 on beer during the game, $30 for before and after. $190 for a night out at the Scottrade. I have invested most of what would have went to Blues hockey and related activities into my garage brewery. What are you guys buying these days? Hookers, maybe some blow? Discuss.

Upgrading my workshop.
Built a new workbench
Built a new work table
Added cabinets
Just spend Wednesday putting up some pegboard. Makes a huge difference.

That stuff didn't cost a lot of money as I did all of the work myself, the workbench and table were made from wood I already had...and the cabinets were my parent's old kitchen cabinets (they just got new ones). I maybe spent $100 or so total on that stuff.

The wife wants me to make her a wine rack. She just had 24 bottles of various high quality red wines delivered, so I'll be doing that on Saturday I think.

I'll be putting up a nice glass mosaic tile backsplash in our kitchen over xmas break. That won't be that cheap...but again, doing it myself so it could be worse.

Bought a new Slingbox Pro-HD a couple months ago.

Fun stuff. I'm definitely not bored. Especially with two kids running around and xmas coming up.

Went to three Notre Dame football games this year.

Plans in the works to get some IU basketball tickets. Now that they (damn) have fallen to #6 should be a tad easier to acquire.

My money's going to silly things like paying the mortgage. As the missus is presently unemployed, I'm busting it working 2 jobs to keep afloat. She has some prospects on the horizon over the next month or so, so we'll see where that goes but it's been a tough 2.5 years for sure. If things start rolling right I have a couple of springtime projects planned. We have some gnarly looking bushes in the front yard I want to rip out and build a porch, and I need to find a way to increase the storage space inside. We've been in the house nearly 4 years and still have two rooms that look like we just moved in. The longer we go living like we just got here, the more frequently I'm going to hear complaints about how it looks like we just got here. Damn I could use a garage or a basement, neither of which this house has.
