12 runs against the Cubs in one inning. Couldn't have happened against a better team.

That was fun to watch. 7 doubles and 1 triple that inning. 2 other doubles in the game too.

I posted this on Facebook and I'll re-post here: If a baseball team sweeps the Cubs, does it really count as a sweep?
I'll take it. Glad to see the Cards dominate the way they did.

haha, yeah, sweeping an A ball team isn't really much of an accomplishment, but fortunately the wins count all the same.

Re: Game Thread: July 2012
This isn't really about the Cardinals per se, but just an observation. What I find hard to believe, is that the last two Cardinals' teams to win the WS ('06 and '11) have beaten the NL team with the best record on their way to the title. In '06 it was the Mets and in '11 it was the Phillies.
The year after this happened, both the Mets and Phillies took a complete nosedive. The '07 Cards weren't great, but let's face it, that '06 team was on it's last legs anyway. Well technically the Mets were close in '07 but had the colossal collapse down the stretch and haven't been the same team since, nor have they been in the playoffs since. I don't really have a point to make, but seeing the Phillies auction off some of their veteran pieces today just made me think of that. They were "THE GREATEST ROTATION EVER!!!" just a year ago, now they're sinking quickly and throwing luggage off the ship.

Re: Game Thread: July 2012
I'm not ready to fistpump the Mujica trade, but I like it. Cox was signed to a major league contract, so he is only controlled through next year. There was pretty much no chance he would be re-signed and even less chance that he made it to the MLB with the Cards barring significant injuries. So, the question was, trade him now for a piece that could potentially fill a hole this year or hope that his plummeting value somehow rebounds so we can get more next year.
I think I like trading him this year even if a little more in return would have been ideal.
