GDT: NHL Trade Deadline Day

Post by dmiles2186 »

Only two moves this morning. Radek Dvorak to Atlanta for Nic Bergfors and Patrick Rissmiller. Move that just happened, Dennis Wideman to Caps for Jake Hauswirth and 3rd rd pick. The Panthers are switching things up, not surprisingly.

Sounds like we're trying quite hard to dump Jack's so.....that would make this a great day.

I highly doubt Armstrong is done. He even mentioned the possibility of moving some of these picks we've acquired for players.

BTY TSN is stating that Conks cleared waivers and WILL STAY IN ST LOUIS??????

Balls. Because the Blues totally need his 3.11 GAA and .884 save %. This is just a hunch, but my guess is that's why NO ONE ELSE WANTED HIM. Blah. He can ride pine the rest of the season for all I care.

It's funny to think about, but 7 years ago or so, we were all on this board arguing about Jackman vs Arnason when they were both going for the Calder. Safe to say that Jackman has gone on to have a better career, but at the time it looked like both players would be cornerstones of our respective franchises for years to come and now both are essentially afterthoughts.

What the hell happened to Tyler Arnason, anyhow?

Zetterberg is the obvious winner of that rookie class.

He was in Sweden, but complained his way out of there, too. When he was a Blackhawk, they only paired him with veterans in the hotel because they found out that he was ordering pizzas every night. The guy was lazy, and he ate/complained his way out of the NHL.

Aves acquire Belle. I'm seeing a pattern here.

Blues seem well positioned for the future given our boatload of talent 25 and under, cap space and newly achieved lack of bad contracts with two caveats:

I sure hope we don't end up giving the Aves a top 5 pick in 2012

Do we have any money?

Am I the only person that thinks its incredibly unlikely that we excercise our option not to trade picks in 2011?

The Avs are pretty horrid, that 2nd rounder of there's is going to be a solid one. Meanwhile, the Blues 1st is probably going to be in the 10-12 range. If you're the blues, I think you just bite the bullet and make the switch when you know the 2nd you get in return is a good one. If you wait until 2012, what if some of Colorado's young talent emerges and that 2nd ends up in the middle of the round? Even if your pick is now down in the 20s, the value of the swap is roughly the same as the 2nd you get in return will be worse.

And that doesn't even consider the possibility that the Blues are bad again.

I dunno, with the draft being something of a down draft, I'm pretty sure the Blues will just make the swap with Colorado this season.
[Aode] 10:34 pm: well, if I find cornhole anywhere, I'll try it and let you know

It could always be worse, I could be a Cubs fan. (But please, if you could spare me the parallels between the respective organizations, I'd really appreciate it).

That's what I'm hoping. I heard one guy on NHLN say that 20th guy off the board next year will probably be better then the 5th guy off the board this year.

Do we have the option to give them this year's pick if we are in the top 10 picks? I thought if we were outside top 10, it was theirs, and within top 10 it gets deferred to next year automatically. We have the option not to defer?

Yes, it is our option. We can elect to give it to them.

The interesting question would be "When do we have to notify them?"

I doubt we can wait until we are on the clock, but that would be cool.

"Sh*t, there is no one on the board we want....give the pick to them".

No huge deals today, kinda surprised. Lots of small moves and tweakings.

Arnott and Penner being dealt were probably the two biggest moves.

Blockbuster of the trade deadline period still belongs to us for the EJ,McC for Shatten, Stewart, better or worse

Just because the deadline has passed doesn't mean there won't be any more trades announced.
