I never understood the childish and idiotic comments surrounding this.
The guy did something he wanted to do...he published a book and was proud of it.
And some internet assholes poke fun at it, and never ever, ever, ever let it go.
It's probably 1000x better than anything they could ever dream of writing.

I read it and it's really damn good.

Writing a book is a major project that takes so much time, energy, creativity and personal resolve that just getting it done alone is an achievement. Anyone who wants to mock that on any level is simply not a good human being, in my eyes. Instead of looking at someone's success from mere completion and being inspired by it, some look at it with total disregard and that to me explains why those people aren't successful at anything...but bitching.

I read it and it's really damn good.

I've tried a number of times and failed ingloriously each time. I have so many great plots but can't seem to put together anything that resembles an attention grabber past the first couple of pages.

Can only +1 that, I'm not even halfway into writing up my first decent novel idea, and it's already like pulling teeth at some points. And then to think of people sacrificing everything and trying to make a living out of creating anything, not just books...They have all my respect.

Shawshank Redemption is based on the story Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption. It is one of four novellas in the book Different Seasons. That book also has the novella The Body which became the movie Stand By Me. One of the other two stories also is a movie, but I can't remember the other two stories.

At the moment I'm struggling to get through Silver Linings Playbook. Loved the movie, but the book I don't know. It could be that between working my regular day plus night school twice a week and my sons teething ravaging my sleep schedule that I'm just too tired to read. I'm up to chapter 3 and it's due next week.

I've read entirely too much.

You'll know right away if it's something you'll enjoy or not. I re-read it every few years and it always kills me.

Wow, that is quite the list. I've read some of those, but easily less than 5% of them. I noticed 2 of Turow's books on there. I like Turow. If you're not aware, he came out with a sequel to Presumed Innocent, called Innocent. It's not quite as good, but still worth reading if you liked Presumed Innocent.

Not sure if any of you are into historical mysteries but here are a couple I liked:

Carter Beats the Devil by Glen David Gold. Fiction set in the 1920's featuring real magician Charles Carter.

The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson. Non-fiction book based on the murders of visitors to the 1893 Chicago World's Fair by Dr. H.H. Holmes. He opened a lodging house for fair visitors and turned it into a horrendous torture building.

Just started a sci-fi novel called "Leviathan Wakes" by James S. A. Corey. About 40% complete and the story is awesome! The series (called The Expanse) is being made into a tv show which will air on SyFy this fall.

War in space, mysteries, alien viruses, cool stuff.
