Ernie Banks dies

Let's play two... somewhere. I know nearly everyone here is a Cardinals fan, but I really want to see the Cubs succeed. I feel terrible for that franchise and their fans, over a century of suffering. They can already rally behind a new manager and a fresh outlook, now they can rally together for Mr. Cub too. RIP.

Only heard good things about him.

This will sound blasphemous, but part of me wants to see the Cubs do well too. I don't have the same hatred for them as I do for the blackhawks or red wings or especially kU. And, I usually get excited about a team that hasn't had success that now has the foundation in place to be successful for awhile. If you were to remove the rivalry, they would be my 2nd team this year. Guess you can't really do that though.

I want to see the Cubs win as well. There's only so much heartbreak a fanbase can take and they've had more than their fair share. I don't think it's blasphemous at all to say that. I am worried that Cubs fans will turn into Blackhawks fans with even 1-2 good years...that's the only thing I'm worried about. But much like the Red Sox winning, I just want to see it once.

As for Banks, it's a sad day. Not to bring the Cardinals into this, but he passed away almost 2 years to the day that Musial did. Both excellent players, upstanding men (from all accounts), faces of their franchise during their playing days, after, and most likely posthumously. Couple Banks' passing with Santo and the Cubs fans base has lost 2 titans in the last handful of years.

It's a shame he never really had any team success during his career.

I'm glad Chicago should be better this year. I'm looking forward to the games with them meaning something. I remember a couple times in the late 80's we were battling with them for the division late in the season...that was fun stuff. I always look forward to the Cards-Cubs games, but they never really mean anything in the standings because the Cubs are never a threat...we'll take 2 of 3 in a series, push them to 18 games out and that's about it...yay.

Of course I want the Cardinals to win the division...but if they can't, it would be fun to see the Cubs win it and to see how they do in the playoffs...and if they could happen to get to the World Series? Wow...the coverage and buildup for that would be crazy. I pity the team who would play them in the WS, as nobody would be rooting for them.

But in reality, I think the Cubs will only finish slightly above .500 at best. I think Rizzo guaranteeing the Cubs will win the division is hilariously awesome. That's just fun stuff to hear...and bulletin board material for the Cardinals locker room. 8)
