Why do we suck when we play the cubs?

Oh come on guys, don't you think the Pirates deserve a break at least for one year? Their poor fans have been suffering horribly for so long because their ownership blew.

That's what the Wild Card is for. We haven't won a division title since all the way back in 2009.

Nice to be stringing a few wins in a row again. 3 straight series wins and already guaranteed at least a split in this one. Our schedule is brutal for the next 2 weeks (2 more against ATL then 13 against CIN/PIT). But after that stretch we don't play another team above .500 the rest of the season until the playoffs. Let's just not dig ourselves a hole against CIN/PIT and we should be able to win the division IMO.

Here's how I think NL playoff seeding will play out:

1. Dodgers
2. Cardinals
3. Braves
4. Pirates
5. Reds

I'm really tempted to put the Reds ahead of the Pirates, but they've got enough injury issues I don't think I can predict them overcoming 3 1/2 games. It could definitely happen, but I think it happens less than 50% of the time.

I don't know how often any of you go to games or how much you like non-pisswater beer, but there's a new place (new this year) like 2 blocks from the stadium on Spruce (street with Musial statue/Metrolink station) called The Flying Saucer. It is really awesome. Slightly pricy, but not too bad. It has a 4 page menu, with 4 columns of small print on each page with nothing but different kinds of beer. If you ever get a chance to go, I highly recommend it.

At this point, I'm inclined to agree with you on the rankings. The Cards are really going to have their mettle tested over the next few weeks. This would be the absolute worst time to go on a losing streak. It will be interesting to see how things shake out.

That Craig GS was pretty wild. Gotta be soul crushing to the Reds.

1 and 3.5 games up. Let's keep it rollin through Pittsburgh. Just gotta maintain IMO. Don't get annihilated.

Cards just traded for John Axford. My initial reaction is WTF. But, maybe in a 7th inning role with Siegrist it won't be so bad. IDK, he's just so damn inconsistent anymore.

Yeah, I'm not too excited about Axford. But, if the Cards can use him in the right situation (I.E. Rhodes and Dotel back in '11), it could be a good pickup. I remember going to watch a Cards-Brewers game at Miller Park back in 2011. It was the series that the Brewers swept the Cards to take the division lead, one they would never let go of. Axford mowed down the heart of the Cards lineup with relative ease that night to earn the save. Dude was touching 99-100 on the gun. Certain closers are absolutely dominant for a year or two and then just can never find that groove again. Maybe that's him. I'm not sure how Milwaukee was using him after he lost his closers role, but if he can slide into the 7th inning role, we could have a pretty solid back end of the bullpen.

I just hope they spotted a mechanical flaw or something. If they did, I actually like the trade because it's low risk (regardless of how it works out), but high reward if they think there's a shot he can return to 2011 form. I'm just not very optimistic about that happening.
