Cards Thread: August 2013

Well, the end of July absolutely sucked. I fear that the Cards are beginning their annual slide, gotta pull out of the tailspin. If they get swept in a 5 game series against a team that's been chasing you in the division all season...bad things happen.

Yeah, that was a pretty shitty way to end the month. But I don't feel like we're behind. I'm fully confident we'll make these games up.

This has been an extraordinarily frustrating week. Offense being abysmal was obviously the main issue, by a big margin. But, it seemed like we just couldn't get anything to go right . . . at the absolute worst time.

At least we hit a little better last night. Gotta turn some of those into extra base hits and not strand so many, but it least it's a start.

13-0!!! It was August 1 afterall, so the Pirates slide has begun. Seriously, i don't think they'll have a slide like the past few years, but it's kinda funny that on August 1, they suddenly get their ass kicked.

Let's keep it going in Cincinnati.

Seriously...where was any of this the last week? Sheesh.

That's 3 of 4 games with 13+ runs now. That's a nice offensive surge. Wish we could have spread that around the road trip a little better, but I feel oddly good about a 3-8 road trip. I think that's because I think we will finish ahead of the Pirates despite that 5 game series and we took 2 of 3 from the Reds. If we beat those 2 teams, how we finish against Atlanta only matters in a potential NLCS matchup.

Kelly has been really good of late. Would be nice if he went a little deeper into games, but I'm not going to complain about that being the biggest issue of somebody moved from the bullpen to the rotation midseason.

If Lynn and Miller both have figured out whatever was causing their slumps (and I think they have) and Waino goes back to being Waino (he will), our rotation could be really solid again.

What a weird game last night. Hopefully Miller is OK. I'm guessing he misses 2-3 starts which could actually be a blessing in disguise since it's a mistake to increase the inning load on a young pitcher by more than 20-30(ish) per year.

Westbrook sucked, but he did give us almost 5 innings on short rest. Silver lining I guess. I wonder if there would have been a benefit to letting him warm up through the second inning and come in in the third. Maybe part of his problem in the 2nd was that he wasn't ready yet. Or maybe not.

The Cards annual second half slide to crap is officially in full swing.

Yeah, they are playing really poorly the past few weeks. Hopefully this extended rest for some of the starters works and gets them going again. Holliday is crushing. Jay is too (but he's so streaky, we'll see how long that lasts and how far he falls when he falls off). mCarp seems to be coming back around a little too. If we can get a healthy Yadi back in the lineup that will also be a big plus.

I'm not in panic mode yet, but this is a pretty damn important series against the Pirates.

That's what I thought about the last series versus them

3 game set against Pittsburgh. I know they've got them 3 more times in September, but I feel if the Cads don't win his series, you can kiss the division goodbye. Your goal at that point would be gaining home field for the wild card playoff.

After last night the Cardinals are now 1-40 when trailing after 8 innings. Crazy.

It was so nice to be on the other side of that. Please please please let this spur something to get us back on track.

Tonight, we were not the best. Oh well, let's win the series tomorrow.

Climbing back from 4 down, blowing the lead, winning in extras. Gritty win today. Big series win. We've got the Pirates in our sights. Please go back to winning series.

I was watching the game on my iPad at my desk at work today. When we won, I think I scared the shit out of my boss.

Such a big game to win. Not once, but twice, we walked off on the Pirates after notable comebacks. That's gotta be demoralizing to them, especially since they've lost 5 of 6. Just keep on taking 2 of 3 and I think we'll get the division, but the Reds are getting hot too.
