More like game 2 weeks and a couple thread, but whatever.

The niece of a colleague of mine is an alternate on the womens gymnastics team. Considering how shitty the regulars did in the trials, she'll probably get a chance to do something when the other 5 finish falling on their asses.

One alternate already hurt her neck and is out. One of the regulars hurt a toe, but is expected to compete...for now.

How fun would it be to win gold on the first day, with no other events, and just enjoy the games for 2 weeks?

I think tomorrow I'll schedule to watch the swimming and maybe some fencing. All these times are cockamamie, I'm assuming they'll have replays later in the day because I sure as shit am NOT waking up at 5:30 to watch anything. I assume neither are the athletes, those can't be local London times, why the hell would they have events that time of morning? Who the hell would go watch?

I believe there are certain channels on the NBC network where you can view events live and others where the events will be shown on tape delay.

Jordyn Wieber kind of blew it. Any comparisons to the 1996 team are greatly exaggerated, though I will admit they're very good on the vault... very good.

The diving, congratulations to the women on securing a silver. Those Chinese are very good though, I guess that's what happens when your life is on the line if you fail to medal.

The swimming, major disappointment. Shit happens though, I guess.

Just got back from London. I just want to say I'm damn proud of my sister and St. Louis area native Jenny Bindon for her play in the 2012 games for New Zealand and especially proud of her getting up after taking a knee to the face from Alex Morgan. If you didn't see it:

Congratulations to your sister, F Keenan.

I've taken a liking to water polo during these games though I'm not really sure why they're constantly blowing the whistle and what does and doesn't constitute fouls. I mean, they're tangling with the other team underwater, how can attempting to drown someone in order to maintain possession not count as an exclusion?

Nice job by Serbia turning it on at the end of the game against heavy underdog Australia. Their tremendous defense, goaltending and spectacular scoring prowess at the end of that game reminded me a lot of the Andy Murray era Blues. Or wait, maybe not.

Damn, water polo is exciting, I wish there was a place to watch it around here.

Crap, I didn't realize there was an Olympics thread going or I would have joined in. My wife and I were both talking this morning how we missed not being able to turn on the Olympics throughout the day. After the birth of my son, I had a week off so we got to watch a lot of the Games, which I've never got to do before. A lot of fun. Even better that the US destroyed the medal count.

No problem dude, there's always Rio. Winter Olympics suck, aside from the hockey. The summer games have always been my preference but I'm sure I'll start a GDT for Turin in '14.
