Game Thread: May 2012

I figured that since we all don't post here frequently enough, I'll create a thread for the entire month so we can just post about games/moments etc and then larger stories can have a thread of their own. This will help to not clutter up the board with series threads with only a few posts in them. I figured I'd give it a shot, if it's a stupid idea, let me know.

:cubssuck:

Edit: I also realize I'm creating a game thread on an off day. My apologies if you fear a jinx.

Hearing Jay is going on the DL today.

Beltran is going to sit again as well.

Nice win yesterday. Time to string a few of these together.

BTW, Craig is a beast. He can just flat out hit.

Just needs to stay healthy. I know it's re-hashing old discussions but I would take Jon Jay and Allen Craig over Colby Rasmus any day. So glad the Cards stuck to their guns on that one. Jay is underrated too.

We're up to that dumbass interleague shit. At least the Cards and Dodgers are keeping it real tonight. Everyone else can go suck a dong.

I don't recall ever being happier for a player as I was for Waino last night. Misses a year in his prime to TJ surgery and his team wins the WS without him. Comes back and struggles, but finally gets a CGSO. That's pretty awesome. I'm not ready to say he's fully back until he strings a few really solid starts together in a row. But, that was a major step forward last night.

Also, wtf injuries. It's like a never ending horror show the past few weeks. Craig should be back as soon as he's eligible I believe, and that will help a lot. And, Jay about the same I have heard. But, it seems to be one after another. I know they're trying to spin mCarp's injury as not that big of a deal, but that looked a lot like an oblique strain to me based on his reaction. I'll believe otherwise when he plays again.

I didn't realize this when I posted before, but the Cards had just put mCarp on the DL w/ an oblique strain.

They called up Stephen Hill, but I don't know much about him. He apparently is a catcher than can play 1B and corner OF.

The worry about this team was injuries. And they're hitting hard and they're hitting guys you don't expect to get injured (M Carp, McClellan, Jay). If the Cards can weather the storm and come out on the other side, they can make a run.

Yep, completely agree. They've hit harder than I would have liked. But, a nice 3 game sweep of the Padres hopefully has righted the ship enough until Craig and Jay can return in a week or two.

I haven't heard any update on Berkman, but if this really is just a torn meniscus, and he really can play again in 6-8 weeks, that's the biggest break any team has gotten so far this season IMO. Well, if you can call an injury a break.

What a horrible, horrible month, both in the win-loss columns and on the DL sheet.

Did you read Bernie's column from this morning. He calls it "Mulder Road," where we hear how minor something is, then it moves to surgery, but it's only MINOR! before progressing to, 'yeah, he's done for the season.'

Yeah, it's at the point now that I don't really care what the medical staff says about anything. Until a player is either put on the DL or activated, nothing matters because they can't be trusted.

At this point, I'm waiting to hear that Berkman's leg needs to be amputated..
