In actuality, I really do enjoy board games but just seem to play the standard ones everyone does. This thread has peaked my interest in seeing what else is out there, which I'm quickly discovering is A LOT.
Yeah man, I had the same experience as you. A work buddy (who is also a HUGE Blues fan) turned my attention to all these games. Tumblin' Dice was the first one I played at this guy's Christmas party a few years back and I've been reading up on it more and more. I'm still a novice on these designer board games but from the concepts and the artwork, etc, you just get so much more out of these games than your standard board games out there.

I hope you realize those 3 girls don't come with the game.
Glen, you just ruined my day.

Greatest game show of all time! (Or at least my childhood)

I was Orange Iguanas all the way. All other teams were (to quote goon) full of a bunch of frankin' pansies.

Ticket to Ride is good but I've only played it once so far. The recently reissued LOTR board game is similar to Pandemic in that it's a good cooperative game. I really like the old MB game Samurai Swords (originally called Shogun) but I can never find enough people to play it anymore. It's like Risk on steroids, and my wife doesn't even like regular Risk.
Entire Gamemaster series was legit, with of course Axis and Allies being my favorite. Fortress America was also lots of fun. Sold my edition of Broadsides and Boarding Parties on ebay about five years ago for 100 bucks....should have held onto it.

Looks fun.
What did that set you back and where did you buy it?
Nobody has this game that I could see...except ebay...and it's $80.

Anyone ever play the card game, Pit?
It's a furious trading commodities game...like the stock market floor of sorts.
I love that game.

What about Pass the Pigs? We turned that into a drinking game in college. Fun stuff.

I think mine ended up being about 60 some odd bucks. I bought it on the BoardGameGeek marketplace: http://boardgamegeek.com/geekstore.php3 ... meid=16747

It's a rare game and that's why it's usually so high in price and I think it's out of print now so that makes it even more expensive. I know I had to look and look and look before I found it for purchase. And at the BGG marketplace right now there are none listed for sale from a US supplier.

It looks like a lot of fun. But I'd rather build it than spend $80 on one, which is the cheapest I found it. Wow.
Hell, cut up some 3/8" board, paint on the graphics, add some dowels for the base and the pegs at the end... lacquer it up and there you go. $20 or so should cover it.
Maybe I'll make 'em and sell 'em for $50. 8)

A lot of people do that and if fact, one of my friends played this with us and after the first round he said he was going to build his own. He liked the game that much. He hasn't built it yet but if you go online, you'll see where people have built their own. If I was handy in any way I would build my own, but I'm not, so at this point I won't haha.

I strongly suggest building/getting/playing this game. It's simple but near the end, when 3 players are chasing 1, they start aiming for that person's dice on the board and hilarity and anger ensues. That's my favorite part. It all starts out so jovial and fun, then people start picking each other off. To me, that makes a game fun.

I played a lot of chess on deployment and got pretty good at it. I always loved playing clue when I was a kid.

Hey, don't say that 'bout my Purple Parrotts!!!
But I agree, loved Legends. So does my younger brother (used to watch the reruns).

My friends brought over Dominion the other night, and it was really good. I've only played it once, and I did terrible, but I've got some strategy ideas for next time now. There are different setups you can use too, so it looks good for repeat playability. They also got Agricola for Christmas, but I haven't tried it yet.

My wife passed on Ticket to Ride for 50% off at one of those calendar stores at the mall, then decided to go back for it, but it was sold out. :(

I haven't tried Dominion or Agricola. I have a friend who owns both but have never played.

Ticket to Ride is becoming high in demand from what I can tell. I just played the Ticket to Ride: Europe edition. I need to get a Ticket to Ride for myself. That game is too fun.
