Let's Talk TV Shows

I was always more of a movie guy as opposed to TV shows, but I've kind of changed my tune lately. Seems as though TV are where the majority of the risks are being taken. What are some shows that you find essential to every TV viewers Netflix queue (if they haven't already seen them, that is)? Feel free to gush and preach about any of your loved TV shows.

Mine (no particular order):

The Wire
Six Feet Under
Freaks and Geeks
Friday Night Lights (the acting on this show is so unbelievably great that you don't even have to love football to appreciate it)
Arrested Development
Lost (Yeah, I'm a sucker for this. I waited 5 seasons before I started watching, can be a bit maddening at times, but overall a quality network show)

I'll have to think of some others.

I'm not sure if all these are available in nexflix but...

Always Sunny in Philadelphia
Tosh.0
Weeds (well the first 2 seasons at least were good)
How I met your mother
30 Rock (was good for a laugh or two and I know it's on instant queue)

those just off the top of my head.

one of the shows I really liked was Huff, which was on Showtime for 2 seasons and then inexplicably vanished. It starred Hank Azaria of Moe the Bartender fame, as well as the lovely Paget Brewster and the talented Oliver Platt.

Dexter
Deadwood (worst language I've ever heard in any show, but it's a good one)
Curb Your Enthusiasm (Larry David is the best)
The Sopranos
Criminal Minds
Chuck (good show, appeals to the nerd in me...the girl is an added bonus too)
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
Arrested Development (Can't believe it went away as quickly as it did. Amazingly funny show)
The Office

Animated:
Family Guy (uh...durr. Anyone who's anyone watches this show)
Sealab 2021 (only while Harry Goz was there, it went downhill after that)
Aqua Teen Hunger Force

If you're into British shows these are excellent:

The Office (UK Version. IMO this is funnier than the US version and I think the US one is pretty good)
Extras

The Mighty Boosh

The IT Crowd

I haven't checked these out but I hear good things:
The Wire
Rescue Me

This is one that's always intrigued me. I've almost bought the series on DVD on a whim but aside from all the hype around it, I don't know much about it.

It is one of my favorite tv shows ever. It will not disappoint, except when it ends way too soon.

Dexter - Waiting for season 4 to come out on DVD so we can catch up (we no longer have showtime). Great show.

LOST - I'm a loyal LOST watcher. Have been since season 1. Damn...season one and two were great.

Sopranos - Might be my favorite tv show of all time. I'm jealous of anyone who is just starting to rent and watch season 1.

Arrested Development - My favorite comedy tv show of all time.

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia - My favorite comedy tv show right now.

Modern Family - Damn funny show. A must watch.

Flight of the Conchords - God I loved this show. I no longer have movie stations...need to catch up on this show.

30 Rock - Always funny.

Big Bang Theory

We just Netflixed the first disc from season one of MadMen...we'll see how that goes.

I'm a sucker for Home Improvement shows...and Holmes on Homes is my favorite on HGTV.

That and Pawn Kings are the only two shows I watch on TV beside NHL on the fly or NFL Network.

:plusplus: I saw the movie Serenity first, then bought the series on DVD without seeing any of the episodes and it is excellent.

I'm almost done with Battlestar Gallactica, and it has been really good too. I don't watch much TV besides hockey really.

I may Netflix this sometime then. My wife told me I wouldn't like it because it can be borderline cheesy at times, but I'm a big Nathan Fillion (sp?) fan, and seeing as he is the main hombre in "Firefly," I ought to give it a shot.

Speaking of Nathan Fillion, I don't know if you all have checked it out yet or not, but he and Neil Patrick Harris and Josh Whedon (who created "Firefly") did an online musical a few years back. I believe its on Netflix now, it was on Hulu at one point. It's called "Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog." It's great if you like that sort of thing. Both of those guys are hilarious in it. It's worth watching the 30 minutes or however long it is (was originally in 3 parts).

I agree with you Curt....Arrested Development is quite possibly my favorite TV comedy of all time. The cast was perfect, the 'in-jokes,'...it's one of those shows that you would have loved for it to go on forever, but at the same time, the 3 seasons they did were near perfect. It's kind of how I feel about "Freaks and Geeks," too. Sure, the show looks much better now that most of the (at the time) unknown cast went onto big time stardom, but the one season was almost so perfect, if they had made a second season that was subpar, it would have ruined the whole mystique of the show.

Other shows that I've seen episodes here and there but would like to watch in full:

Deadwood
Oz
The Sopranos
The Shield

Modern Marvels, Mythbusters, Greek (some of the stereotypes are laughably bad and some are pretty accurate. It's intriguing, I like it), South Park, Family Guy and the Simpsons.

To a lesser degree Law & Order. It's better than CSI or Bones, which I can't stand.

I used to really like the Daily Show and Colbert Report but its just more and more blatantly political. They used to make fun of both Dems and Repubs with some kind of rough if imprecise equality. Now its just bash on Repubs hour. Also I've come to realize that college kids actually watch both of the shows feeling like they just watched an actual news program and that they are more informed about their world and have something intelligent to say about things. I do this ->
