There's two answers to that.

Best time for sales is in the spring around tax refund times. Stores usually offer the most around that time.

Best time for haggling is during the Christmas season. Appliance sales generally take a huge dive in the last quarter of the year because everyone is buying electronics for the holidays. Some stores might be a little desperate for sales at that time.

Bump for a useful thread! :okman: I got my new appliances delivered on Friday, hooked up the dishwasher on Saturday. I was looking at Whirlpool/Kenmore for everything, but I read a lot of bad reviews about the icemakers on their fridges. Ended up getting a GE fridge instead, and Kenmore for everything else. It's nice having a matching set of new appliances and not the hodge-podge of old stuff that came with our house.

We're starting to look for appliances for the new home now.
We came across a scratch and dent Maytag washer for $295...normally $550...so we picked that up.

We aren't going fancy with the appliances (no circuit boards, no lcd screens...I don't want to mess with replacing that down the road), but we are going stainless steel in the kitchen.

And I'm all about scratch and dent. If I can save a few hundred bucks per appliance because it has a scratch on the side that you can't even see, sign me up.

More scratch and dent news...

We just bought a scratch and dent refrigerator for the new place.
Brand spankin' new...originally priced $3000, marked down to $2600...got it for $1600.
All because it had a tiny scratch on the side about a foot from the bottom near the back...which will be covered up by cabinets and you won't even see it. (I didn't even notice it...the salesman had to point it out to me)

We weren't going to spend that much on a fridge...but we couldn't pass up that deal.
Scratch and dent rules. 8)

If anyone is in the market for an appliance and hasn't visited the Sears Outlet at the Mills Mall...do so. Everything is scratch and dent, they have a TON of stuff...and most of the stuff is like 40-50% off.

Did you negotiate that extra $1000 off or did they do that on their own free will?

It was "on sale" or "red tagged" down to $1600.
I guess we could have negotiated...I completely forgot about doing that. I guess it didn't occur to me since it was scratch and dent. Couldn't have hurt to ask I guess.
But to tell you the truth, I can't imagine that fridge would have been there very long if we hadn't bought it. They might not have come down in price at all...but who knows.
