The words "customer service" have to be one of the biggest hypocrisy's in the world. Where is the customer service when you have no power and the power company says they can get to your house in 4-6 days? Where is the customer service when you send in an email question about a faulty hard drive and you don't ever get a response? Where's the customer service when you hear the famous, "your call is very important to us" 100,003 times while trying to get some sweet ass OLP tickets?

Customer Service is ghey. I hate customers at work, I hate being a customer when I need service, I hate friggin crappy crap crap.

Well F*ck.
My Maxtor One Touch 4 (750gig) external hard drive is acting up. Damn thing will start flashing and disappear from the system. I have to unplug it and plug it back in for it to work again. It's only four or five months old. At least it's still under warranty.

This is the 3rd external hard drive that has gone defective on me in the past six months.
I had two WD MyBook's...and they both started acting goofy...and now this one is acting up.
These things are supposed to backup your data, but they aren't reliable at all. Who in the hell would want to backup their important stuff on a drive that may go out in a few months?

Ridiculous.

Same thing happened to me about a month ago. I bought an Acomdata external drive on Amazon.com and about 2 days after I had it it crapped out on me. Amazon said to send it to the company since it's under warranty. I did. I haven't heard from them since. I've sent multiple emails, etc. trying to get an update on what's going on and it's like I just sent it to a black hole. I do know it was delivered because some guy named "Chen" signed for it.....

I have no clue if I'll ever see the thing again.

Why, because it can handle all the anti-virus software better?

No...for starters, it's because half of the cool shit that's out there won't run on a Mac.

When people create software, half of the time they only make it for a PC...then, later on down the road, if it's successful...maybe they'll slowly release something for Mac users...but it's usually not as good, or has less functionality.

There are millions of little applications for the PC that you can download to make your computer experience that much more customizable and convenient for you. The number of free applications out there for Macs, is far less. Don't get me wrong, I've got some pretty cool free apps installed on my Macbook Pro...but the number of titles available for the PC just blows Macs away.

And don't even get me started on gaming.

I surf the internet, do academic research, write papers, do bill pay, and listen to music. I also watch the occasional DVD on my computer.

If that's all somebody does online or with a computer, the Mac is the far superior choice.

I've been a mac owner almost 5 years and I've never had a virus/trojan horse/worm/spyware problem other than a macros virus that affected my Microsoft Word program only. Figures the only thing to get in here and eff things up was linked specifically to a Microsoft product.

Just saying. For worry free light use by somebody like me, there's no contest whatsoever.

Oh yeah, the graphics and music recording capabilities with the macs is topnotch.

And yes, the mac is just fine for the occasional porn session. :P

Unix is just a superior platform because it's simpler.

I'm not a gamer other than I do play tribal wars and am kicking a little bit of ass.

I gotta disagree.
If that's what you're doing, you can get a comparable PC, for less $$.
I've been a mac owner almost 5 years and I've never had a virus/trojan horse/worm/spyware problem other than a macros virus that affected my Microsoft Word program only. Figures the only thing to get in here and eff things up was linked specifically to a Microsoft product.
I've been a PC owner since 1996, and I've only had one major problem with a virus...and it was my own fault for downloading and installing a cracked program that was actually a virus. I knew better. It took me less than a day to fix.
In almost every case, if someone gets a virus, it's because of their own stupidity.
Oh yeah, the graphics and music recording capabilities with the macs is topnotch.
I agree. However, spending the same $$ on a PC will probably yield better results.
And FTR, I do a lot of high end graphics stuff at work...and I use a PC as my workhorse. My wife does a lot of high end photo editing at home, and we have a PC at home as the workhorse as well. They offered me a high end Mac, but I didn't want it...I took a MacBook Pro instead because I needed a laptop at work for presentations and whatnot. I asked for a Dell laptop, and they offered me the MacBook Pro notebook...so I said what the hell...why not? It's not my primary computer, so no biggie. It's really nice...but after using it for 6 months, I'd definitely rather have a high end Dell laptop instead.

My PC box at home is one I built myself, and it's a couple years old, been upgraded a little here and there since then...and it's still a high end machine that cost me maybe around $1200 total, and that includes a dual widescreen monitor setup and a hard drive upgrade not long ago...and if I want to upgrade again, I can.
Unix is just a superior platform because it's simpler.
I enjoy OS X, I just prefer XP because I can do so much more with it.
I'm not a gamer other than I do play tribal wars and am kicking a little bit of ass.
Still going on Tribal Wars? I have been out of that game for over a year now I think.
A friend of mine is in the top 5 overall. At least he was a month or so ago. gath02 is his username. And he did it on a PC.
It's ridiculous how much time he spends on that game.

What kind of Mac do you have? iMac I take it?
One thing that really bothers me about a lot of Macs, is that you can't upgrade them. The iMacs are an "all-in-one" sealed machine...so if you want to upgrade the monitor or the cd rom drive or add another hard drive or upgrade the ram after a couple years of owning the machine, you can't. If you want to upgrade, you have to drop $1500-$2000 on another iMac...unless you have a tower Mac Pro, which few people do because they cost almost $3000.

No difference. Hassling with all the bullshit that gets onto your machine is the issue. I'd much rather pay a few hundred extra bucks to avoid that hassle. That's my point.

If I didn't take care of my computer, I'd have my fair share of spyware and junk like that on it that would slow it down.
But I regularly clean the machine by running a spyware removers, AVG antivirus, and ccleaner to clean the needless junk out, etc. It only takes a few minutes. And rarely do they find anything significant. But I run them just in case.
It's like maintenance on a car...same thing. If you take care of it and keep it relatively clean, you shouldn't have many issues.
I don't consider it a hassle at all...but to each his own.
