I'm going to be in StL this weekend for a wedding, which means grandparents for babysitting, so my wife and I are really hoping to catch this while we're there.

Re: The Dark Knight
I really want to see this movie, but I will have to probably wait until late Sunday night to see it, to try and avoid the masses.
I hate people. And I really, really hate noisy obnoxious movie crowds, which is sure to include masses of geeks, at least 20 crying babies, several old ladies that like to narrate to each other regarding the story at hand, and endless slups of an empty soda and rustling of candy wrappers and boxes.
Am I grouch? Oh absolutely. When I go to hell, I will be sentenced to either a busy Super Wal-Mart or a crowded movie theater.

I haven't watched a comic book movie in years and don't intend to start now.SIU LAW wrote:Mellanby_equals_grit wrote:*insert comic book movies are god awful comment here*

So clearly movies you have never seen with your own two eyes...all suck?Mellanby_equals_grit wrote:I haven't watched a comic book movie in years and don't intend to start now.SIU LAW wrote:Mellanby_equals_grit wrote:*insert comic book movies are god awful comment here*

Genre-ist.
Give Batman Begins a try. Put the old movies and TV shows out of your mind and watch it. Next time I see you, I will pay you back the rental fee (minus any late fees you rack up).

Is this movie part of a series? If I've never seen a Batman movie do I need to before I see this one?

Re: The Dark Knight
I am not sure whether this one can be solely enjoyed on its own or not, but it is a sequel to Batman Begins.Prngr44 wrote:Is this movie part of a series? If I've never seen a Batman movie do I need to before I see this one?
Batman Begins completely restarted the Batman franchise, as if the other Batman movies never happened.
It is an excellent movie, with an excellent cast, I would check it out if I was you.
Re: The Dark Knight
Here's my list of recent "I don't give a shit what you say, because these are good comic book movies," movies. And if you haven't seen them, you're missing out.Mellanby_equals_grit wrote:I haven't watched a comic book movie in years and don't intend to start now.SIU LAW wrote:Mellanby_equals_grit wrote:*insert comic book movies are god awful comment here*
Umm...did you watch Batman Begins?
(in no particular order)
- Ironman
- The Hulk (2008)
- Sin City (graphic novel, comic book...same damn thing)
- 300
- Batman Begins
- Spiderman 2
- X-Men 2
- A History of Violence (surprisingly good...I hadn't heard much about it...which usually allows for a better viewing experience, IMO)

Re: The Dark Knight
Comic book movies have been substantially better over the last few years compared to earlier attempts.
I liked the Spider-Man movies (for the most part), but hated the CGI fight scenes at times.
I thought the X-Men movies were horrible.
The latest Hulk was pretty darn good.
I couldn’t believe it, but Iron Man was excellent. For such a lame character, they made an awesome movie.
Sin City was interesting, but didn’t wow me.
As obvious in this thread, I thought Batman Begins was one of the best comic book movies ever made.

I'm so jealoussssssssss..ugh. I'm in the UK for a few weeks and it doesn't come out here until next week, so you all will get to see it before me! However, I am gonna go to the London premiere on Monday, so that makes up for it a bit..hopefully I get to see Morgan Freeman.
Dark Knight

Re: Dark Knight
I did. It was fantastic. Heath Ledger deserves Oscars. Taking kids may be tough depending on your taste, lots of shooting and violence but little if any blood. Worth every penny and 2.5 hours at the midnight show.
The Joker cult following is going to explode now, just watch.
And here. we. go.

Really? I thought it was amazing, and I had no basis of what to expect or what it was about beforehand.SIU LAW wrote:Comic book movies have been substantially better over the last few years compared to earlier attempts.

V for Vendetta was pretty damned good too. Much better than the graphic novel, which I read after seeing the flick.
