Well, they fixed that.

So, I called back today to demand the $100 back that I spent to have it "fixed" the first time.

After an hour, they would not budge. No refund.

But they did offer me Viva Pinata, Kameo, Project Gotham Racing or the Xbox Live Arcade game.

common glitch on alot xbox360s that pretty much means that your console is dead. Everyone who has owned a 360 will get the red ring of death at some point. It's called the red ring of death because three of the four rings on the console's power button will light up red.

30% is insane. A normal failure rate for consoles is around 3-4%.

I talked to a guy at Slackers and he told me similar things about how many of them come back for repair...I think he said somewhere between 30-40% of the new xbox 360 units they sell, come back because they have broken.

And for $400? Wow...

Isn't hardware 50% of the system? Without hardware you have no system. You have software that does nothing but sit there. It's like a car without tires, or a hockey team without a heart...*cough*

The 360 hardware does suck. When mine went down I was very pissed.

That said, they refunded the amount I paid to get it repaired and it has only gone down the one time. So in about 2.5 years my 360 has been in the shop for about 3 weeks.

Still unacceptable, but it's not always doom and gloom. The truth is somewhere in the middle. You here plenty of stories of people with no problems what-so-ever to offset all of the crazy stories of people going through 6 Xboxs.

So, just an update...

I now have my own personal technician at Microsoft who is working my case.

What'd I do?

A little research, and I started firing off e-mails to some of the big wigs in charge of Microsoft's Xbox division. And yeah, I e-mailed Bill Gates too.

Less than 12 hours later, I got a call from Microsoft.

My situation is getting expedited now. It still isn't getting resolved perfectly, but at this point, I'm done asking for things. I just want a working console and they're saying the right things to make me believe that will happen.
