First of all, i live in Sweden. Everything in USA is interesting to us.
Yeah we figured that the drive would be a bit boring but hope to cut it to under 5 hours. Thats also why i´m looking for a few tips to see along the way.
Is Hooters that bad? I went to Hooters on Manhattan and that was terrible. Thanks for the tips.

Mardi Gras, what exactly is that anyway? I´ve heard about it but never really understand the occation.
Hooters is generic Americana...better to experience some of the things unique about St Louis.

Grant's Farm is a place you would probably find interesting.
http://www.grantsfarm.com/

My family and I usually make it out there once or twice every year.

Parking is about $8 if I recall, but there is no admission fee.

FYI: If you drive west out of downtown you cannot travel on the major highway 64 (locals call it "Highway 40") between major highway 170 (the "Inner Belt") and major highway 270. That stretch is closing tonight at midnight for the next year to be completely rebuilt.

I just did my farewell drive on it. There were maybe like a dozen cars on my side of the road on that stretch. Then at Lindbergh there were construction crews rubbing their palms together to get ready for the big shut down.

the body exhibit thing is still at the science center, right?

that might be cool

also, you can tour the brewery and hit the casinos.

you can also check out the west end, the loop, south grand, somebody mentioned the hill already...

lotta stuff to do like in any other city.

I have some friends that own restaurants around town if you need some recommendations as I'm sure many other people do as well.

Yes, like everyone else said, just get to St. Louis as quick as possible. Just last month some buddies and I drove up to Chicago to see the Blues play the Blackhawks. That is one UNINTERESTING drive. Anyway, glad to have you here, have fun, and drink heavily!

There have been some great suggestions so far in this thread, and I'll ++ goon's suggestion about the <a href="http://www.slsc.org/content.aspx?id=3255">Body Worlds Exhibit</a> at the Science Center. Very cool. Also, you'll be near the former site of the Old Barn!

Blueberry Hill on Delmar is a decent joint to eat at, and you can follow it up with a root beer float across the street at Fitz's.

Maybe I'm one of the only people that enjoy this sort of thing, but if you want to unwind you could always take a stroll on the campus of Saint Louis University or something.

If you go to Grant's Farm, you'll be like 2 minutes from my house. Good stuff.

Enjoy your stay!

There is only one place you need to go to while you're in St. Louis. And that is Pops, across the river in beautiful Sauget, IL.

I'll let Goon recommend good spots for hookers and blow.
Yeah, if you like having to eat 1000 hamburgers to close in on getting full. I've never seen such small, thin, non-filling burgers in my entire life.
White Castle rules.

Best Blues music will be downtown. Try BB's Jazz Blues & Soups. Also, Broadway Oyster Bar (great cajun food here, too).

check out the sushi bar In the Lobby Lounge at the Ritz-Carlton in Clayton.

Morton's steakhouse in Clayton might be a good place to go if you want a huge slab of beef.

Wash U's campus would be really good too.

The restaurant I would totally recommend is Cafe Brasil at the corner of McKnight and Manchester.

It's a little pricey but you can order the big ass meal "churrascaria" with the buffet, which has fresh fruit, salad, several stews etc....

check it out here

Several servers walk the room with skewers of several kinds of meat which they cut off and put right on your plate.

[img:200:133]http://images.stltoday.com/stltoday/res ... big118.jpg[/img]

I've never eaten so much food in my entire life. Granted, it's like 40 bucks but while the place is in an ugly ass strip mall, inside it's got a really cool vibe.

just around the corner is the gumbo house and also Carl's burger joint.

Food:
Spaghetti Factory -- Good food, cool atmosphere, good prices.
Scottish Arms -- Try the cock-a-leekie pie. Trust me. Best thing on the menu and one of my favorite meals.
Fitz's -- They make and bottle their own root beer here.
IMO's -- St. Lous style pizza...either you hate it or love it. Really thin, cracker like crust with provel cheese. mmmm.
Fortel's Pizza Den -- Thin crust, but with Mozzerella and baked in brick ovens. Good pizza.
Anywhere on "the hill"...The Italian area of St. Louis...lots of great Italian restaurants.
Here is a website that lists "the hill" restaurants:
http://www.thehillstl.com/where_to_eat.html

The Riverfront Times has a nice list of St. Louis Restaurants and breaks them down:
http://restaurants.riverfronttimes.com/ ... urants.php

Attractions:
St. Louis Arch -- They have an interesting museum here too. GET TICKETS IN ADVANCE if you can. They frequently sell out.
Anheuser-Busch Brewery -- Great tour...and it's free.
Science Center -- Free as well...cool for kids.
Art Museum - Another free gem of St. Louis.
St. Louis Zoo -- Yet another free activity in St. Louis...and one of the better zoo's in the country.
City Museum -- Very interesting place...probably not like any museum you've ever been to.
The Loop -- (cool area...lots of cool restaurants and shops)
Laclede's Landing (on the riverfront) -- Some good places to eat and shop.

The Blues practice at the Ice Zone skating rink at "The Mills" mall in Hazelwood, MO. And it is free to watch practice.
Here is their site: http://www.icezoneatmills.com

Good luck...and have fun!

Feb. 2 is the Mardi Gras Grand Parade and party. Where are you staying? You should at least see the craziness that of which is called the St. Louis Mardi Gras!
