So I've been fooling around with the Armchair GM tool on capfriendly. It's a lot of fun if you guys have never used it.
Anyway,
Jeremy Rutherford just commented in a recent article that there's "no appetite" among management to buy out Alex Steen. He means a lot to the franchise. So how would re-signing Petro work if you can't buy out Steen?
IF we can get Petro at the Josi deal or less (($9.059 AAV) and IF we can get Dunn at $2.5 AAV or lower, we could be cap compliant by only moving two players at full cap hits: Jake Allen and Tyler Bozak.
With Kyrou as the 13th forward and Bortuzzo as the 7th defenseman the Blues would have $13,501 in cap space.
If we kept Bortuzzo down pending injury we could have as much as his cap hit ($1.375 AAV) cap hit to play with in either retained salary for Allen/Bozak or more money for Petro/Dunn, and still be compliant.
My point is this: It may be as small as moving 2 guys to get back into the $81.5 if Petro got Josi's deal, or even a little more.
