Read a little bit ago somewhere on Twitter that both the Caps and Penguins are interested in Shattenkirk. It was presented in the context that neither team would want the other to have him. If true, could be something that drives his price up some, albeit as a rental.

Yes, but only if they throw in a 1st round pick coming our way too.

Oshie for Shattenkirk :aaaa:

More seriously, if Kuznetsov were better on faceoffs, he might be a good fit to play with Tarasenko.

Looks like the market is 1st, 2nd, and conditional for upcoming UFAs right now.

There's so many rumors at this time, it's hard to keep them straight and know which ones have substance. But, saw one a couple places that involved Shatty to Rangers for Kreider and a 1st round pick. Saw that return plus a prospect or two also rumored. That seems like a lot though.

I don't know why the Rangers would give up tangible assets now when they're the frontrunners to sign him in the offseason.

I understand they'll probably have to move money around for him but why do that solely to acquire a player when you can move the cash on your terms in the offseason PLUS sign Shattenkirk?

He's either going to be traded as a rental for a modest return or not at all. Hope to be dead wrong on this, but he seems hellbent on getting to UFA status and who could blame him?

Caps fans sound scared that it'll be Jakub Vrana. I admittedly know nothing about him other than a Google search.

On Sanford from Hockey's Future
Sanford has the ideal frame for the NHL, already coming in at 6’4, 190 pounds. With a frame that size, he could stand to add a bit more strength and weight, making him even more difficult to play against in the future. For a big man, his skating is solid though unspectacular. Sanford possesses excellent vision and playmaking ability and has shown an ability to make those around him better. At 20 years old, he is still very raw, but has all the makings of the gem the Capitals envisioned when they took him in the second round back in 2013

Sounds like the C the Blues need for Tarasenko to explode.

However, he played 26 games for the Caps this season and did nothing 2G 1A averaging 10 mins per night in those 26.

A Capitals 2017 1st round pick might as well be counted as a 2nd round pick. I wouldn't expect much return from it given the weak draft this year.

Better than nothing I guess. Sanford is a LW, not a C. If he plays to his size, that could at least add physicality to the Blues play.

That HF page also said he has potential to be a top 6 forward, but is probably a good 3rd liner/borderline 2nd liner... so Berglund?

And the Blues are retaining some salary too!

They are getting hammered for this trade by armchair GMs, but I don't know what people expected. Dougy backed himself right into a corner here and he got the return he deserves.

Shattenkirk and his agent leveraged this absolutely perfectly. He goes to a legit Cup contender and can talk to his beloved Rangers in July. Good on them.

TJ Oshie and Kevin Shattenkirk skating with Washington's 1st Stanley Cup would be the the cherry on top of the shit sundae that is Bluuuuues hockey.

Retaining half salary should have been expected.

1) The Caps aren't going to re-sign Shattenkirk.
2) It's only half - so 2M
3) It will have ZERO IMPACT (other than having the full 4+ M to sign Parayko) on the Blues cap next season, because Shattenkirk's salary next year is ZERO for the Blues

So WTF is the big deal about that??? It's not like the Blues are buying this season.

The Bishop trade, which is similar in players, TB retained half of Bishop's salary - oooo - for a whole 3 months. So what???

Making mountains out of what isn't even big enough to be called a mole hill.

Anyone know the condition on the 2nd?

I think a 1st, 2nd and a decent prospect is probably as good as you can expect for a rental. If the tables were turned, and we were trading for a guy we knew we wouldn't resign, that would be a lot to pay, but I'd pay it if I had a legit chance at the cup.

The condition on the 2nd worries me. If its based on him resigning and we lose it, then we didn't get enough IMO.
