I'd be shocked if he's back. Someone is going to be willing to overpay him. He gets his last big pay-day of his professional hockey life (more power to him) and the Blues simply are not going to be able to match (nor should they) what he'd command on the open market.
The only real incentive for Backes to stay here is that this team finally has made the push to becoming a real contender and most other contender's have their backs against the cap same as the Blues. Unless he plans on signing with an up and coming team I don't know if he could get on a team more talented than the Blues right now. Only other incentive is familiarity with the St. Louis area and home-town heart-strings. Which don't factor much.

Saw someone tweet (I think it was Strickland) that Backes and his wife were going to sell their house either way. They just went ahead and put it on the market.
