We discussed this on the podcast last night. I think they are badass.
Just wish they would have incorporated the yellow lines.
He also has a Cujo inspired mask coming.

He'll need to suck up to the organization, given that he's probably a goner at the draft. Better hurry up on that mask before it becomes irrelevant--unless he goes to Edmonton, Toronto, Detroit, Arizona or Calgary, that is.

I gotta think Elliott is staying here unless we get in some serious need for cap space.
We would't get a ton for him and he is probably worth more to us than he is in a trade.

If we do move Elliott, we'd need to get a decent veteran backup for Allen... somewhere. But, we already have that guy in Elliott...and he's better than decent, he's quite good, he doesn't make a ton of money, and frankly, he should be playing a little more than he is.

Curt, didn't you say in the preseason that Elliott would be our starter come playoffs?

At roughly halfway through the season, I would say both Allen and Elliott have performed like a clear #1 at times, while performing like a backup at others.

So we're really not any closer, IMO, to knowing who will be our playoff starter. I would say barring a complete Allen meltdown, he gets the nod because the organization has pegged him as our "long-term" guy.

I think that the odds are that said vet would either be Ells or Allen and someone from downstairs would get called up. We got more than enough talent to call up and Ells and Allen are more than good enough to rule the pipes. For a change, goaltending to me is a position we don't need to concern ourselves with at this point and time.

If we move Elliott or Allen, it should be to fill a need at a different position. I would hope we would move deadweight like Gunner, Ott, Bergy, etc. first. Those three alone, money-wise, would get us a serviceable player at the very worst.

I believe I did.
And Allen has been the better guy so far this year...but not by a lot quite honestly. Elliott has been almost as good. And the only reason Elliott's numbers aren't quite as good, is that he hasn't played in many games. He had a couple bad games and that killed his average numbers because of the relatively few games he has played. The more he plays, the more they will come down...and he'll be playing a lot until Allen is healthy.

I think Elliott should be getting a little more playing time anyway. I'm all for having a clear cut #1 & #2, but if it's Allen as the #1, Elliott needs to get in a few more games so Allen isn't worn out come playoffs...because at this pace, Allen will have played A LOT more games than he ever has. Which may not end up meaning anything, but I'd rather err on the side of caution there...especially when our backup plays like a #1.

Eh? Folks already speculating about trading 22 for cap space. I can't see keeping a Cadillac backup goalie while a cornerstone like that goes out the door. And honestly, he could get another shot at starting on another team. If he's got any ambition, he should want to leave. Also, the Blues have a goalie prospect log jam. I would wager confidently that Elliott is gone next season.

Before being injured, Allen made 31 starts to Elliott's 12 (which projects to a pretty standard 60-ish/25-ish distribution). I think the decision as to who the starter is has been made-and it makes sense considering the prospects for the two players' futures with the club. A cap team can't carry a guy playing backup minutes making upwards of $2.5M. Meanwhile, Husso is having a fantastic season in Finland (admitted: I know dick about that league) and Copley & Binnington are both holding their own in the AHL.

I'm inclined to think the prized jewel in the organization is Husso. All the other stockpiling is just filler waiting for him to be absolutely ready to come in and take the #1 immediately. At that point we might just assume that one of the fillers become the regular backup, but Elliott has a very small window of time left in the organization. The Allen injury may actually help up Ell's value if he performs well and a team is looking. Backup goalies though, you can find them aplenty.

Again, trading Shattenkirk would be nuts. I'd be inclined to presume the future 6 on this team could be Parayko, Shattenkirk, Walman, Dunn, Schmaltz and Vannelli. I'd part with Pietrangelo, Bouwmeester and Gunnarsson long before I ever entertained a deal involving Shattenkirk, unless we were getting a sure thing offensive piece in return. But, I'm digressing because this is a Cujo/Elliott thread so I'll save the Drouin business for the Drouin thread.

Maybe he's trying to turn into Curtis Joseph...and righting a wrong when Cujo was traded. He's back folks! 8)

All this does is make me miss Cujo :(... True boss netminder.

If Elliott is channeling Cujo, he's obviously possessed Ells based on his stats for the last handful of games :D.

Personally, and I might get fire for saying this, but I wish Ells would create his own sort of look rather than borrowing from Cujo. I get it's an appreciation thing and I can't fault him for that, but he's Elliott and he has done great things for the Note and, like Cujo, is really underappreciated in his time. Hopefully that changes.

The mask is going to be worn once and then auctioned off for charity.

So, it's really just the pads, glove & blocker.

The whole goalie night thing really underlined for me how much crap the Blues have run out in goal in my lifetime. They got the good ones: Liut, Fuhr & Joseph. Other than that? My brother and I were having a laugh discussing whether invitations were extended to:

Rick Wamsley
Greg Millen
Vincent Riendeau
Guy Hebert
Jon Casey
Jamie McLennan
Brent Johnson
Reinhard Divis
Roman Turek
Fred Brathwaite
Chris Osgood
Jason Bacashihua
Manny Legace
Patrick Lalime
Tom Barasso
Curtis Sanford
Hannu Toivonen
Ty Conklin
Chris Mason

:?:

While this is the 19th season out of 35 I've seen where the Habs have either Roy or Price as their starter...

Elliot looks mean with those pads.

And why would we trade him, he's the better goalie by far....think its a coincidence that the Blues are back on a win streak :? :? :?

Allen has issues with wrist shots from 30 feet out.....and most importantly from the side of the net when there is no angle...you have a 50% chance of scoring if you shoot from there!!!!

If Allen is the starter in the playoffs....kiss the Blues goodbye!!

St-Louis has started the wrong goaltender in the playoffs the last few years!

I've never agreed with a 3-poster more.

Elliot, when he's hot, is one of the best goalies I've ever seen (including Jim Hrivnak). I believe his Blues era numbers were discussed in another thread that I'm not quite sober enough to linky to, but suffice to say they are top 5 NHL material. Unfortunately, when he's off, he's atrocious.
