Blues invite Havlat & Zubrus for PTO

Blues invite forwards Havlat, Zubrus in for tryouts
http://www.stltoday.com/sports/hockey/p ... 35aa5.html

With an acute shortage going on at the forward position after the injuries to Paul Stastny and Jaden Schwartz, the Blues have invited veteran forwards Martin Havlat and Dainius Zubrus into the team on professional tryout offers.

Both Havlat and Zubrus played for New Jersey last season but didn't sign with anyone this season. Both have been around for a long time.

Havlat, 34, has played 14 NHL seasons, with Ottawa, Chicago, Minnesota, San Jose and New Jersey, where he had five goals and nine assists in 40 games last season. He was the 26th pick in the 1999 draft. He was in camp on a PTO with Florida this season but didn't get a contract offer.

Zubrus, 37, has played 18 NHL seasons, with Philadelphia, Montreal, Washington, Buffalo and New Jersey. With the Devils last season, he had four goals and six assists in 74 games. Zubrus didn't get a PTO offer for camp.

The Blues have one extra forward on the roster at the moment, wing Ty Rattie, behind the 12 they will suit up tonight. They got caught short on Saturday night when Scottie Upshall got sick shortly before the game and the team had to suit up defenseman Chris Butler as a forward. When Kevin Shattenkirk is able to play and Butler goes back to Chicago, the Blues will have 22 players on the roster and room for one player.

One of these guys should be better than Butler at forward, right?

Either would be better than Butler at defense too.

There was a time I dreamed about Havlat in Blues uniform... That time is long long long long long long long long long long long long long long long long long long long long gone.

Long gone.

Just making sure my point gets across.

I may be missing something, but there aren't better options in Chicago? Cannone? Kristo? Paajarvi?

Yeah, I'm with you. If there's nothing better than this on the farm we should probably be worried. Then again, if you promote those guys you need live bodies for Chicago. As long as nobody's going to be signed on a one-way contract, then

And also, definitely:

...and Facebook is a pile of complaints again. Just like they did with Gomez and Upshall.

Don't hear people complaining about those guys anymore.

Facebook is the scourge of internet discussion.
Idiots flock there.
It's why we have a thread here dedicated to the stupid things that are said there. It's a hilarious train wreck of suck.

If either one or both can work out as good or better than Gomez has so far, sign them, but let Rattie play over them. He is our future, not them.

These are just depth PTOs due to all of the injuries at forward. Gomez will need some time off at some point with this 35 year old legs.
