I want to beat these choads so badly.
BLUES (1-0-0) at WILD (1-0-0)

TV: FS-MW, FS-N, FS-WI

Season series: The St. Louis Blues and Minnesota Wild each won two games during the regular season, with each team winning once on home ice. The Wild eliminated the Blues in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, winning the series in six games. Vladimir Tarasenko had three goals and five points in the regular season series and scored six goals, including a hat trick in Game 2, during the postseason. Zach Parise had three goals during the regular season and three goals and four assists in the playoff series.

Blues team scope: St. Louis practiced at home on Friday afternoon before flying to Minnesota. Blues coach Ken Hitchcock said forward Troy Brouwer will be in the lineup after sustaining a lower-body injury in a 3-1 win against the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday. Brouwer blocked a shot with his skate during the game and did not practice on Friday. Hitchcock also said defenseman Robert Bortuzzo will make his season debut against the Wild, but did not say who he will replace in the lineup. Either Joel Edmundson or Colton Parayko, each of whom made their NHL debuts on Thursday, is expected to be scratched. Jake Allen start in net.

Wild team scope: Minnesota practiced on Friday after a 5-4 comeback win against the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday. Forward Nino Niederreiter, who left the game in the third period on Thursday with what looked like an upper-body injury and did not return was on the ice. Niederreiter should be available, as should center Mikko Koivu, who had a maintenance day on Friday. Center Tyler Graovac has a lower-body injury and will not play. Charlie Coyle will shift from right wing to take his spot as third-line pivot. Right wing Justin Fontaine, who has been rehabbing a lower-body injury sustained early in training camp, could make his return. If Fontaine can't play, coach Mike Yeo said the Wild could dress seven defenseman and play Nate Prosser on a wing.
The Minnesota Wild's top offensive season in franchise history translated to their most successful year under Mike Yeo, the final highlight being an unexpected series win over one of the top teams in the Western Conference.

This season started in promising fashion offensively, though they'll likely need a better showing in their own zone Saturday night with the visiting St. Louis Blues targeting the team that sent them home in the first round in April.

The Wild finished tied for 12th in the NHL last season with 2.77 goals per game, which might not sound like much, but it topped their previous high of 2.76 from 2005-06. They finished fourth in the Central Division, but did so with 100 points for their best mark since finishing '06-07 with 104.

It took a few periods, but the scoring again came in Thursday's 5-4 win in Colorado. The Wild fell behind 3-0 after the first and 4-1 by the end of two, then completed a span of four unanswered goals in just over five minutes midway through the third on Zach Parise's third of the game.

"We weren't on for sure," Yeo said. "It looked like the type of game you play after a weeklong break after you play a couple of, I hate to say it, easy exhibition games. We pretty much kind of slept-walked through the first two periods. It felt like once they got up they really tried to run at us and that kind of woke our guys up."

Minnesota eliminated St. Louis in six games last season before bowing out to Chicago in the West semifinals and went 6-3-1 in the overall season series.

The Blues kicked things off with a more conventional victory, beating Edmonton 3-1 at home Thursday. Vladimir Tarasenko evened the game in the second period before newcomers Robby Fabbri and Troy Brouwer scored in the third. Fabbri, a 19-year-old rookie playing his first NHL game, got the winner.

Coach Ken Hitchcock saw the team evolve out of preseason form somewhere in the second period.

"All the talk that you have, all the preparation that you have for exhibition, you don't really know the level until you experience it," Hitchcock told the team's official website. "I thought where we turned the game around a little bit was in the second half of the second period.

"We started to really check and create turnovers and really got after them a little bit and started to put a bunch of shots up. We really started to check in the second period and that kind of turned the momentum for us a little bit."

Tarasenko scored six goals in the playoff series and has nine with four assists in his last 12 contests against Minnesota.

The last eight of those goals have come against Devan Dubnyk, who wasn't quite as sharp in the opener as the Wild would hope with four goals allowed on 23 shots.

Dubnyk, who assertively took control of the goaltending job in the second half of last year, went 6-3-0 with a 2.42 goals-against average and .915 save percentage against a St. Louis team that averaged 2.88 goals - including the playoffs.

Brian Elliott made 23 saves against the Oilers, but it was Jake Allen who played almost all of the playoff series and will face Minnesota again. Allen was 3-4-0 with a 2.24 GAA and .909 save percentage in eight games against the Wild last year.

An early test of our new "system?" Would like to get some payback for the playoffs, but in reality a win tonight is small consolation for a first-round elimination.

Anyway, bring us two points, please. :letsgoblues:

Baby steps. A win tonight would be nice, not just to go 2-0, but to beat the team that knocked us out of the playoffs.
I'll take what I can get right now...and right now, I want a win vs. these asshats really bad.

I'm hoping and expecting for us to win handily tonight. I know it's only one game, game 2 at that, but I think the playoff elimination will have us fired up tonight. Hope so anyway.

It definitely changed - at least for the 1st two lines and sometimes for the 3rd line. The amount of time the Blues played in front of the opposition goal line vs Edmonton was considerably greater than what they did last season, when possession spent so much time behind opponent's goal lines.

I like that The Blues keep their poise when the opponents are doing well on the forecheck, and when The Blues finally get the puck, they don't just dump it out of their zone to relieve pressure, but they keep possession and look for the breakout pass to catch the other team off balance, and unaware.

Very bad play there - especially with only 8 seconds left. Textbook play. The defenceman has a teammate there. He absolutely HAS to forget the puck, and take out the opponent forward against the boards, and let his teammate just cruise in and scoop up the puck.

He KNEW that The Wild only had 1 man anywhere near, and his teammate was closing in. That's a Bantam rookie benching offence (never mind to do that in The NHL)! And several fans keep saying that Shattenkirk is playing better than Pietrangelo!

I don't think that is the "reckless" type play Hitch had in mind!

Blues looked like garbage the last 8 minutes or so.
Let the Wild play their game.

Blues tie it 1-1, as Steen rifles one and Dubnyk was screened as it went through the defenceman's leg!

Good kill off of that penalty. The Blues really needed that. The Wild's speed is starting to wear them down.
