Really? And he only had surgery on the 4th? Why the wait?

At 6-8 weeks, the difference is huge. One way he gets a short pre-season, the other he'll be playing catch up all season.

According to JR...
Armstrong said they waited to have the ankle "settle down" and have it heal by resting it, but it was still sore when he resumed skating recently so they opted for surgery so he would be ready for the start of the season.

So they apparently feel he'll be ready since they were monitoring it and had surgery as the backup plan.

My question is why we signed him to an extension when he has a lingering injury that they knew may need surgery if it wasn't healing as quick as they wanted. The extension could have waited. There was no rush. :?

Good he'll be back in time for the regular season. I also never got why they put off surgeries for so long if they knew they'd need it, but I guess they know what they're doing so I'll leave the medical stuff to the medical professionals.

Depends on the ankle injury speaking from experience. Had an issue with the ligament than runs across the top of the foot at the base of the ankle. Docs didn't want to operate, because they normally heal on their own with rest and without surgery. Mine didn't heal as they expected, so 6 months later, after 4 months of various types of physical therapy which did not work, surgery was done. It's not weird. Docs seem to prefer the non-surgical process if it's on the table and surgery only when certain it is necessary.

Which makes complete sense. With any type of surgery, this is at least some risk something will go wrong. If the body can naturally heal itself, that is the best option if you have the time to wait for it.

He'll be back in time but will he be hockey ready. Need a 2nd line center. Backes?

If that is it they'll need a 3rd line center. Fabbri?

I think I mentioned on here that I saw on teh twitter that Fabbri was told he would get a nine game look then they'd go from there. This affords them the chance to make good on that if the tweet was based on truth.

That all makes sense then, I suppose. I had an injury to the same ligament (sounds like anyway) as theohall-and it did heal on its own. Not quite as strong/stable as the other one but no pain.

A 14-week delay seems a bit excessive but I'm not a doctor. I guess we get to see who else has chemistry with Tarasenko.
