Blues didn't get winter classic or stadium series. Boston vs Montreal for winter classic. Hawks got a stadium series game - this time in Minnesota. Is there an outdoor stadium anywhere in the St. Louis area that could host a game? I'd rather have Hawks vs blues outdoor game than Hawks vs wild

I clicked on this knowing I'd see the same teams we see every year. Ho hum.

Is this new? I thought this was announced months ago.

Maybe the winter classic was announced but I definitely didn't know about the Stadium Series games until they were announced yesterday.

I thought that had been announced too. I remember being happy for Minnesota, but rolling my eyes at Chicago being included for the 17th straight year while we haven't had one. It's possible that I'm only remembering a rumor or speculation though.

Yes, really. Obviously Busch stadium is out - so what other option is there?

Why is Busch Stadium out?
If we were to hold an outdoor game, it would be there. It would actually be a great place for one.
But we are apparently never going to get to host one, much less participate in one. If we were a viable candidate, we'd have had one already...but instead, we get the same damn teams every year.
What doesn't make any sense is that the Blues draw a very good tv audience on the national broadcasts...and they are a good team with a lot of history.
It really makes no sense as to why we haven't been in one yet...but whatever. The whole thing is becoming a joke and the NHL is going to burn everyone out with the same teams over and over and over and over...and ruin the outdoor games, if they haven't been ruined already.

Why is Busch Stadium obviously out? I don't follow.

So Wrigley, Fenway, Yankee Stadium, Coors Field, etc. can host outdoor games but Busch can't?

You answered your own question - Busch stadium is out because if it was going to happen it would have already. The strange part is that the NHL won't address these questions. I feel a game should be held in St. Louis as well - but something is obviously wrong. Either the Blues don't have a relationship with the owners of Busch stadium, or the money for the game is deemed less than it would be in other cities, or it has to do with team relevance in the current national spotlight. I don't know but something is obviously blocking this from happen in St. Louis to this point.

Circular logic much? We don't know if the stadium was the reason for the Blues not being selected. I doubt that it was and am more inclined to think that NHL is trying simply trying to stick with the teams that have been hot and on everyone's radar of late. Blues, as good as they are in the regular season, never seem to make the famous, popular or whatever that list is that gets you an outdoor game. That they are among a majority of the teams in the league is little consolation.
Not to mention that the Blues don't have to host the game. The Blues fan would be super happy to see them play an outdoor game elsewhere, too.

Ahh, the outdoor games... another gimmick of the Gary Bettman error.
How in the world can/should a game played outdoors hold the same significance in the standings as 81 other regular season games played indoors? Have the ASG be an outdoor event. Regular season games that may or may not bear relevance in a playoff hunt? Thanks, but no thanks.

May I ask the source of your tip that Busch has been considered and dismissed? As opposed to StL just not being big/traditional/novel enough as a market to be considered?
Whatever. Great marketing gimmick, NHL. I'm sure these games are great for firing up the fan bases of teams that are already completely engaged.

Coors is the beer sponsor of the NHL. Busch stadium is affiliated with Anheuser-Busch. That could be a sticking point of hosting a game in St. Louis because Coors advertising would need to be present in Busch stadium during the outdoor game...I am guessing.
That seems petty though.
But that likely isn't an issue, as the owners of Busch Stadium have said they would welcome the outdoor game being played in Busch Stadium...so it isn't likely being held up by the owners of Busch Stadium. They have given their blessing.
But it still doesn't account for the Blues not playing elsewhere.
I really liked the outdoor games for a number of years. But I am really tired of seeing the same damn teams over and over. I would imagine most fans feel the same way. I'd be curious to see the ratings over the past few years to see if they have gone down at all. I mean, I still watch them...or parts of them...but I am not as interested as I used to be.

Time to build the stadium on the river, even if the Rams leave.

I've heard the Coors rumors before. I have a hard time believing that to be true though. We have Bud Light logos painted on the ice at Scottrade. Seems odd for that to be ok, but a game at Busch to not be.

The issue is Coors vs Anheuser-Busch. Coors might not want to be a part of promoting Busch Stadium for an outdoor game since they are an arch rival. At least that is the rumor. Advertisers have a lot of pull in crap like that.

I see what you did there.
