This still saddens me that this is the perceived high point for this franchise. The night above all others...

Agreed with Waukee. How sad that the highlight of this teams existence was a comeback win in a series which they ultimately lost. If this team ever wins the Cup no one will remember or care about what the Monday Night Miracle was.

I agree that it is sad that one of the major highlights of this franchise is a comeback win within a series that we ultimately lost.

With that said, it was indeed a great comeback and a thrilling 3rd period and OT. And as far as great single playoff games go, it is up there...and rightfully so.

Personally though, the "great game" that I like to refer to when talking about greatest Blues playoff games, is game #4 vs. the Hawks in '93...when we swept them in OT. Hull bumps Belfour behind the net and from the boards Janney throws it at the open net and it goes in...Belfour losing his mind and breaking his stick over the goal, throwing it at at Rob Schick and then causing $10,000 of damage to the visitor's locker room. It was a great, great game...and we actually won the damn series against our bitter/hated/arch rival who finished with the best record in the NHL that year when barely squeaked in. Hearing Roenick talk about that game and how he absolutely hated St. Louis and it still makes him sick today that they lost that series makes it that much better. So when you factor in everything, that game gets the nod for best Blues game ever if you ask me.

But even if/when we win a cup someday, the Monday Night Miracle will still be remembered and thought of as one of the greatest games this franchise has ever played in because of the nostalgia factor and the fond memories folks have.

Indeed, 7 games. Felix Potvin's entrance onto the scene, if I'm not mistaken. We lost I think 6-0 in game 7? Complete meltdown

That was the year I became a Blues fan. I don't know how shit would have shaken out if they had won game 7, but I think they could have taken LA. Probably not Montreal, but LA definitely.

Actually making it to a Conference Final is something to remember I guess (figuratively speaking, as I wasn't alive then). Bordering on miracle really. And it makes me sad, very sad.

I understand the disappointment that the MNM did not lead to a series win or a Stanley Cup. But that should not diminish the excitement and nostalgia of a single game.

MNM is a franchise highlight but it is not THE highlight. No, that is reserved for the day the Blues win the Cup.

Was it not a highlight when Red Berenson scored six goals in a game? Even though the Blues did not win the Cup that season.

Was it not a highlight when Mike Crombeen scored in double OT to win the series against Pittsburgh? Even though the Blues did not win the Cup that season.

Was it not a highlight when Brett Hull scored his 50th goal before the season's 50th game? Even though the Blues did not win the Cup that season.

Was it not a highlight when the Blues rallied from 5-0 deficit to beat Toronto? Even though the Blues did not win the Cup that season.

You get the idea. Hockey is entertainment. Why not enjoy the thrill of memorable performances and wins?

If winning the Cup is the only thing that matters, well, you're going to be disappointed nearly all the time, along with all other NHL fans.

Life is short. Enjoy the good moments when you can.

Don't take that the wrong way, it's really a classic, great game that we should hold in high regard, and I do enjoy watching the highlights every now and then. It's just that, especially at this time of the year, one can't help but wonder how painful it is that all we have in every May for some time now, is the fond memory of a game played in the 80's.

Agreed. I watched the clip myself and I didn't get it. I thought it was going to be something about the Blues coming back from a 6-0 deficit to win a game but when watching the clip both teams just exchange goals and the Blues win at the end. What am I missing?

Blues were down 4-1 going into the third period of an elimination game.

Blues scored to make it 4-2, then Calgary made it 5-2. All this in third period.

From then on, Blues scored next four goals, the tying with a minute left, to win in OT.

Most consider it an improbable win. Hence the "miracle."

Down by 3 with 12 minutes to go in an elimination game in the playoffs. That's a noteworthy comeback.

As related on this board in the past, I was there. We bought obstructed view tix right before the game. We ran out to our car after the Flames went up 4-1 to chug beers and halfheartedly came back in to see what we thought we be a sure loss. Many people had left and my buddy and his old man saw us and said, "come sit by us"... so we had good seats for the rest of the game. It was motherfreakin' awesome. Greatest sporting event I've ever seen.
People were (Franking) weeping with joy.

The only other game I've been to that compares is Ozzie Smith's game winning HR against the Dodgers in the 85 playoffs, but the MNM was just so much more bitchin'

and oh yeah... the funny part of the story is that we got some guy to buy us beer before the game even started and we were walking with our beers to our seats and security stopped us and carded us. We were busted. They took us down into the bowels of the Arena to the security office. The supervisor said to this guy, "Escort them out." He walked us up some stairs and then said, "go to your seats." We were like, "hell yeah!!!" So I almost didn't get to see it.

What Hallplante said.
The game itself had a great 3rd period comeback and a fantastic finish in an elimination game. The emotion swing from coming to the realization that your season is over, to in a matter of minutes scoring a few goals to tie it up and then win the damn thing in OT...that's pretty spectacular.
My issue is that you think, "Hell yeah...we forced a game #7!! And we have a shot at going to the finals!!"...but then we lost game #7...and that is what I think of after Wick scores in OT...ever time.
That game would be ten times more fantastic had we won game #7. But it's still an outstanding game if you are just looking at it as one game.

I liken the MNM game to the Pujols home run against Lidge in Houston when the Astros were all but celebrating the series victory. He hit what may be the farthest home run ever in that stadium (no matter what the official distance was on it...they shorted him big time...they said it was still rising when it hit the glass way above the train tracks.) that capped off a nice 9th inning comeback that started with 2 outs, 2 strikes and nobody on base and one strike away from elimination. That game was a fantastic comeback (I think we were down by two runs?), but we lost the series in the next game, so that game lost a lot of it's luster because of that.

To the Blues' credit, the Game 7 loss was competitive (2-1 score). Blues were a goal away from forcing OT and a possible series win. You have to feel proud of that team for battling to the end.

Oh, I do.
But when the smoke cleared, it was still a series loss. And I just can't help but think of that when I see the MNM highlights.

From what I remember, Mark Reeds scored with like a minute left with the goalie pulled in game 7. I was listening on the radio.
