Islanders are going to hold off their move to Brooklyn for at least one more round.

I'm taking Washington in this series.

Halak looked awful in the must win game for home ice in the season finale. He hasn't been great this year. His specialty is supposed to be the playoffs, but he got that reputation because of his playoff run 6 years ago for Montreal. He is far removed from that. His career playoff GAA is 2.42. That's not good enough.

Tavares is a stud...and I expect him to have a great series, but it won't be enough.

Very surprised with the final score in Game 1. I didn't see much of the game but the Caps were playing their best hockey at the end of the season there. What the heck happened?

Some of the commentary I heard was praising the tight Isles defense and they weren't letting the Capitals do anything through the neutral zone...

The Islanders have a very good defense. In a hypothetical Blues/Islanders matchup, I'd be concerned.

Meaningless stat. Far less telling than sv%, which is a totally respectable .925 for Jaro. Agree that Halak may choke though. I can't base that on anything objective-just a feeling. And the Isles are more than Tavares. They're actually one of the deeper teams in the league. NYI in 6.

Halak needs to never go behind the net to attempt to play the puck. Ever.

That's all I got.

The Leddy/Boychuk acquisitions by Snow were the best of his tenure. Those guys are going to be Isles defensive staples for years. And both have Stanley Cup pedigrees...

Forgot about that.

Glad to see the Caps coming back to take the lead in the series 3-2 eventhough Ovechkin hasn't done much.

Kuznetsov is good friends with Tank and he has played very well. So has Tank.

Rangers/Islanders can very well happen. As much as I'm loathe to see the Rangers advance again, which I'm positive they will against the Islanders and not as positive against the Capitals, that would create an energy around here that hasn't been seen since the World Subway Series.

It also lends a question:

So I've heard, and as I understand it, when a team is on a road trip the players are forbidden by league rules to go home for any reason other than major things like death, illness, etc... I think this may be a rule in MLB, but one way or the other I've heard it's the case. As an example, if the Blues are on the road and play a bunch of teams to the west of St. Louis, then close out the road trip with a couple teams east of St. Louis, the players aren't allowed to stop over and spend the night at home. In the case of a series between two geographically extremely close rivals, does this same rule hold? For the first two games at MSG are the Islanders forced to stay at a hotel in Manhattan? For the games at Nassau Mausoleum, are the Rangers forced to stay at the Marriott across the parking lot?

I saw some of the Caps/Isles game yesterday and although it was good I find Western conference matchups more exciting in general.
