Blues send defenseman Lindbohm back to AHL http://www.stltoday.com/sports/hockey/p ... 8a3d8.html
The Blues didn’t practice Wednesday, but they still sent a message about the upcoming shape of their blue line.
Coach Ken Hitchcock said Tuesday that defensemen Carl Gunnarsson and Kevin Shattenkirk would be playing again soon after injuries, and in a clear sign that their time has come, on Wednesday the Blues sent Petteri Lindbohm down to Chicago in the American Hockey League.
Gunnarsson has missed two games with an upper body injury and Shattenkirk, an All-Star this season, has been out since getting hurt Feb. 1 in Washington. Shattenkirk has been with the team on the road and working out and practicing with the team. He worked with the power play unit in the morning skate Tuesday in Pittsburgh.
With those two back, the Blues are well stocked at defenseman, too well stocked for Lindbohm to get playing time. He would have given them nine defensemen, and rather than having him be a healthy scratch, with this move he can go back to Chicago, which plays three games this weekend, and get in some games. The Blues play just once between now and Monday.
The Blues are very enthusiastic about Lindbohm, who has done everything they’ve asked, and a few they haven’t, such as stepping into a fight Sunday after Jori Lehtera got hit. “The guys love him,” Hitchcock said Monday. “He plays like crazy.”
Lindbohm will probably be recalled at some point, but even with him in Chicago, Hitchcock will have tough choices in picking six defensemen.
I'm really curious to see how Shatty is. He's not going to be Norris-contender Shatty on Saturday. Hopefully he can get close to that by the playoffs, but not sure what to expect yet.

He's got eight games to shake off the rust and get the rest of the pairings back to where they belong. My worry level is zero.

Couldn't agree more.
Once he gets a few games under his belt I think he'll be just fine, if not sooner.
I said this when he got hurt...this could be a blessing in disguise. He should be pretty fresh for the playoffs.
I'd bet Shatty doesn't need much work to be Norris caliber form like he was before the injury. Wouldn't be surprised if he has a 2 point game on Saturday, depending on officiating. 3 or more PPs = 2 points. 2 PPs or less = 1 point. What should be interesting going forward, the Blues discovered a functional second unit with the 5 forward thing. Not as good overall as the PP with Shatty, but an added weapon to throw at opponents to screw with their PK when the Blues can shift between the two styles.
