Thank god! I was never a fan of Cole. Now I have to find a new whipping boy.

Maddening. Frustrating. Always felt like he needed to take one step up to get regular playing time and could never do it. But at least he's on his way to a good team.

Cole makes $900k.
Bortuzzo makes $650k.

$250k in savings.

We also get a 7th rounder in 2016. I like that Army is recouping some lost draft picks.

If you count Lindbohm and Butler, Blues now have 9 Dmen on their roster. hmmmmm, still got another 75 minutes

I'm not a Butler fan at all. Not at all. If they traded him for a bag of pucks I'd be cool with that. The only reason Lindbohm is on the NHL roster is because Joel Edmundson had a back issue that slowed him down tremendously. The current back end of the defensive corps on this team is a jumble that doesn't correlate at all to what the depth chart should be. One of them should go back to Chicago, the other should get traded.

Lindbohm and Butler strike me as having no future in the NHL. I guess that puts Bortuzzo ahead of them, though he looked anything like a lock before this season.

Seventh rounders are, uh, what's the word I'm looking for? Worthless. Re-couping what? That 1st we sent to Buffalo? C'mon, don't even bring it up.

Blues failure to develop Dmen lately striking again. I have no idea what Army is trying to accomplish with:

Cole + prospect

for

Michalek and Bortuzzo

No idea at all. Maybe thinking of an offseason shake-up of the D corps which perhaps isn't the worst idea.

Yeah, that's exactly what I mean.

C'mon.

Army has traded away a lot of draft picks the last few years. I'll take as many as I can get. Sure, they're worthless. Until one of them turns out to be decent. Or we use it in a trade for something else. It's an asset. Why not grab what you can get?

I think you touched on his goal in your first sentence. With Shatty out, 2 of Cole, Butler and Lindbohm have to play every night. Even when he's back, 1 would have to play every night. It's a pretty big hole. I think Army's goal was two-fold:

1. Make defense more physical.
2. Rely less on Butler, Lindbohm and Cole.

I think those were worthy goals, he accomplished them, and he didn't give up hardly anything to do so.

Agreed. It's a pick, you take it.

It's hard not to feel like Cole has the most upside by far of anyone (including whoever the 7th rounder becomes) in this trade though.

I just heard that Cole asked to be traded, but can't find that anywhere.

9 points from a stay at home d-man, +16 on the season, +31 over the last 2 seasons. Yep, he stinks. More like he was grossly misused by Hitch. Meanwhile Bouwmeester has 10 points and a +6 but gets paid way the heck more. Jackman has 13 points and also +6. Makes you think.

Yep, and I'm quite sure everyone on here had heard of and was excited about Robert Bortuzzo-who definitely isn't just "what he is", which is another 4A guy like Lindbohm and Butler-before the trade. And then there are commentators and fans saying PIT wanted Cole to get tougher in their own end.

DERP!

I'm hoping if Michalek works out that means Bouwmeester can be shown the door. His contract is looking like a real liability now.
