The problem of waiting for Stewart to get hot is that as many as 30/40 games go by before that hot streak comes. He may sustain it for 7-10 games, but then it's right back to snoozin' on D, loafin' on offense, and frustrating everyone that is watching him play.

If the Blues are done, I think I'll be a tad disappointed.
Surely they aren't done.

I don't think we're done. The Cole trade also opened up some cap space. Berglund + Lindbohm for ???? I dunno, seems odd to have 9 DMen if you don't have another move in mind.

The problem is, Stewart is rarely "on". And when he isn't on, which is most of the time, he is a defensive liability on the ice.
TSN put up a stat on Stewart earlier this morning...over the last 4 or 5 years when Stewart has been on the ice, his team has generated fewer scoring chances than when he is off the ice. That kind of stat for a guy who is supposed to be a scoring forward, is very telling.

I say that, and then the Jokinen trade is announced...which is another, "meh" deal that it's hard to get excited about.

It seems like all of these moves are leading up to something larger. Maybe not...but we'll see.

It really should be illegal for people to tweet about non-NHL stuff right now. Just sayin.

blackhawks traded Ben Smith to San Jose about an hour ago - we got Desjardins in return (I'm slaughtering the spelling) along with a conditional 7th rounder. Smith hadn't scored in 26 games for us and was not a presence out there so this is one of those low profile deals.

Saw that this morning and had been trying to find that even since Leopold was, in fact, traded to the Wild 30 mins or so ago. That was sweet.

And it may not all be done... stuff that is sent to the league at the final bell can take several minutes to be processed. We will see in an hour or so what shakes out in the end.

As it stands, I am almost certain this team is over the cap without outright releasing players.

Nothing super major, but not a bad day really. Jokinen is the only one that really has me puzzled. Not sure what that was about.

trades still rolling in...

Caron for Talbot

Wiz to ana from CBJ

And STL is over the cap as near as I can tell... so wondering if there isn't another deal that hasn't been announced yet. If we are over the cap, we have to cut someone, don't we?
