Sounds like the core of the team stays intact.

TSN's Trade Deadline show has Berglund listed as...."In Play?"

Ohhh.... don't tease.

This coverage of the Trade Deadline on the NHL Network sucks.

Panger went on SportsNet this morning and said that Berglund packed a really big bag for the trip this weekend in anticipation of being traded.

From a hockey standpoint, I'd love to clear his salary (although would be fine with him if he didn't make $3.7M). But, from a personal standpoint, that's gotta be tough to anticipate being traded to the point that you pack heavy on a trip that you may not come back from with the rest of the team. Part of the business I guess.

Whoever you are, run away. As fast as you can. As if your clothes are on fire and there's a pond nearby. Just run. Don't stop. Don't look back. Just keep going and once you are in the clear, you'll know.

Part of me feels bad for Berglund and the stress leading up to it, but then I remembered how much money he makes.
Yup, it's part of the business, but he is well compensated for it.

Speculation on return for him has been all over the place. I particularly like the "he's been playing better lately" line I'm reading a lot. Yeah, we've seen that one before...another deal (assuming it happens) I'll hold up to what Army got for Perron.

Apparently Shjon Podein used to do something similar to Weight and Tkachuk.

Don't joke about Stewart. The Buffalo GM said that he recently received a call about a guy from someone he never expected to hear that call from. There weren't any specifics, but it reeked of Army calling about Stewart because he used to play with Stastny and the familiarity might help Stastny do better.

Would you trade Berglund for Stewart, straight up? I would. I hate to say it, but I would. Stewart's stay in purgatory had to knock some sense into his lazy self and he does have chemistry with Stastny.

I'd take stewie for bergs straight up, honestly. I don't like the guy, but being back putting with a quality centerman and a chance to play meaningful games may be the motivation he needs. He's got to be more offensive punch than Bergs has been this year, doesn't he?

And around the league it seems like it has been pretty quiet for a trade deadline. Not a huge number of big, big names going around.

Nah, not me.
Berglund, despite his frustrating offensive disappointments, is still fairly sound defensively.
Stewart doesn't play a lick of defense (because he plays lazy on the ice) and his offense is pretty non-existent most of the time. I'm not even sure how Stewart still has a job to be honest.
I'd rather have Berglund.

I agree that Berlund is more responsible, but when Stewart is hot he's much better than Berglund at his best. It's all about the now. 2-3 more years and our window could be closed. I'm not going to be heartbroken if Bergy stays, but I'm ready to gamble.

My only issue with Berglund is his salary, and that's more of an Army issue than anything. I think he's a solid 3rd liner with frustrating production for $3.7M. If he made $2.5M, I don't think he would be everybody's favorite whipping boy. The Sobotka situation compounded it too.
