GDT #50: 2/3/15 | 7:00PM CST | v Lightning | FSMW/KMOX

LIGHTNING (32-15-4) at BLUES (32-13-4)

TV: SUN, FS-MW

Season series: The St. Louis Blues defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-2 on March 4 last season behind one goal and one assist each from Alexander Steen, T.J. Oshie and Vladimir Tarasenko. David Backes and Jaden Schwartz each had two assists.

Lightning team scope: The Lightning recalled goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy from the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League and put veteran goalie Evgeni Nabokov, 39, on waivers Sunday. Nabokov cleared waivers Monday but his future remains uncertain. "You dread things like that having to happen," coach Jon Cooper said Monday, according to the Lightning website. "... It's an extremely tough situation because of what [Nabokov] meant to myself and the players in the room." Cooper said Vasilevskiy's play in the AHL dictated the decision. Center Cedric Paquette, who scored his fifth goal in three games to lead the Lightning to a 3-1 win against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday, led the NHL with five goals last week and was named the League's Second Star of the Week. The Lightning have won five of six games.

Blues team scope: Coach Ken Hitchcock gave no updates Monday on injuries sustained by defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk (lower body), left wing Patrik Berglund (upper body) and center Jori Lehtera (upper body). Shattenkirk was injured in the first period Sunday against the Washington Capitals; Berglund and Lehtera have missed the past two games. The Blues were off Monday but all three players were re-evaluated. The Blues' 4-3 win Sunday against the Capitals was their fifth in a row; it's the fourth time they've had a winning streak of at least five games this season. Steen (two goals, one assist) and Oshie (three assists) led St. Louis on Sunday. The Blues played most of the final two periods without Backes, who was assessed a major penalty for boarding and a game misconduct midway through the second period for a hit on the Capitals' Karl Alzner. St. Louis is 10-0-1 in its past 11 games and can tie a Blues record for most consecutive games with at least a point (11-0-1 in 2000-01). "We're back to finding ways to get points," Hitchcock said. "This game [Sunday] can really be a building block for us in the future."

Wicked tough opponent tonight. I think the point streak ends.

No Shatty, Lehtera, or Bergy- going to be a tough one, but I think the rest of the team can manage. At least Backes didn't get suspended.

2 points, please. :letsgoblues:

I didn't realize that. Wow. Good stuff.

I hope we can keep this rolling, but the injuries are starting to mount here.

With a couple of key injuries, if we were on the road I'd say the streak comes to an end against a tough TB team.

But we're at home...so...who knows?

The thing with the system we play though, is that we don't rely on a couple guys...it's team D and team O. The wagons should be circled for this game.

I'll be a homer...I say we win this one.

YOU FUUUUUUUUCKING PANSIES

Just cuz 3 guys are hurt doesn't mean we can't hang. Still dressing:

* Elliott
* Tarasenko
* Schwartz
* Steen
* Stastny
* Oshie
* Backes
* Pietrangelo
* Bouwmeester
* Gunnarsson
* Jaskin

ARE YOU KIDDIN' ME?

And I'm very comfortable with the less flashy names on this squad too - Reaves (who I think could have been Backes in another life), Ott (both seem immensely better with Goc on the line), Butler, Cole, Jackman.. We don't have a "Brewer" on this team right now. Even Butler.. had a couple of bad games, but I'm still comfortable with the idea of him out there.

Hope the boys that are out get better soon, mainly because injuries to key players = more time+fatigue for other key players = more injuries to key players. But otherwise..

Yeah, even with the guys missing I'm liking the Blues' chances. Eastern conference teams always have to prove it.

This "lower/upper body" thing is getting ridiculous. In a few years it'll be "Jaskin out with injury (body)". Sounds like Shatty's was right in the middle anyway!

I agree. Fighting through these injuries can only help make the team stronger.

And I'll also agree with you about Ott. I've been a strong vocal detractor when it comes to #9, but salary aside, the guy has been a beast lately. I think I was expecting more (2.6 mil per will do that), but from straight up cracking skulls to pestering and he's cut out stupid penalties....I like the energy he's brought lately. Goc/Reaves/Ott can be a good addition come playoff time.

Bishop could have pretty much taken the entire period off and Tampa Bay would still be in good shape. Fairly pathetic start.

Although we'd still only be up 2-1.

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
“It makes no difference what men think of war, said the judge. War endures. As well ask men what they think of stone. War was always here. Before man was, war waited for him. The ultimate trade awaiting its ultimate practitioner. That is the way it was and will be. That way and not some other way.”

Ho. Lee. Crap. What a finish. Beautiful goal by Tank to tie and beautiful goal by Schwartz to win.

Elliott was huge tonight- we don't win this game without him.

Schwartzasenko!!!

That was Jaden's best career goal so far. It was Tarasenko-vs-NYR-earlier-this-year-esque.
