Wish we did it in regulation, but I'll be happy with the 2 points. I was worried that we'd have rust that they already got rid of in their game on Tuesday. So, 2 points versus the team we're chasing works for me.

The speed of the second period was amazing. Looked like playoffs and looked faster than I have seen the ice in STL in while.

Guys were flying and the puck was really moving on the powerplay. Really a big change.

The Backes line is really moving their feet well right now.

I'd like to see tighter defense, but that's the best record team in the West for a reason.

Some good stuff happening - now let's keep it going and build off it!

Could we be seeing the start of Nashville's fall? They've lost 4 of 5 (albeit 2 in OT) and their one win came in OT.

I don't want to read too much into a 5 game sample. We had a bad stretch at the end of December before dominating January. But, I've been expecting them to slip, because I don't fully buy into them.

They are without their starting goalie is more the reason for their current struggles, imo. They are playing well, just not getting Vezina quality netminding.

Yeah, I know. That's true. I just haven't bought into them all year. I guess at some point it should shift from "I don't think they're as good as their record" to "They're better than I thought they would be." I'm curious how they play once Rinne returns.

The real question is do they have another gear because that's what it will take to get out of the West in the playoffs.

Yeah.
Nashville needs all-world goaltending to be near the top of the standings.
Some other teams don't, but Nashville does.
Don't get me wrong, you need good goaltending to win consistently in the NHL, but Nashville needs Vezina-like netminding to win this division...which they have had up until Rinne's injury.
They only have 1 regulation win in their last 6 games...and that was their last game.
Hutton has a 2.69 GAA and a .901 save %, and that is with the shutout in his last game. That's not going to cut it in this division. They'll likely be losing more games than they win until Rinne comes back unless Hutton can improve those numbers...which doesn't seem that likely as those are similar numbers to what he had last year.
