By staying with the club as an executive, he'll get a Stanley Cup ring if the Blues are fortunate enough to win it this year. So there's that.

This seems like the right decision by Brodeur. I'm sure if another team really wanted him (and if it was a team he wanted to go to), there would be trade offers. I enjoyed watching him in the handful of games he played for us. All in all, that was pretty cool.

I don't really know enough about the dude to say if he'd be a good exec.. He's been around a long time and has had his share of wins and sorrows, so I guess lots of experience on which to draw.. Will be cool to have him around for events and shit too, I guess.. Just seems odd that he's doing this with the Blues and not the Devils.

Nice. I'm happy to have him stick around. I wonder how long though? I'd imagine he ends up in NJ eventually.

I imagine the Assistant GM position (I doubt he has any real responsibilities) is only for the remainder of this year.

<sarcasm>I'm sure the Blues organization really appreciates the Devils saying that.</sarcasm> No, it's not surprising, but if I were the Blues, I'd be a bit annoyed. I'm sure they are going to honor him in some way and announce that he is finishing the season as the Assistant GM here...but it's kind of weird now that we know for sure he'll be back with NJ next season. It's like he is a lame duck Assistant GM here...so what's the point? Just go back to NJ now...but then he wouldn't get a ring if we win the cup. Well, that, AND we are still paying him.

This make me like Brodeur even move. Classy move to stick with us the rest of the season.

Well, as a fan, it is kind of weird to have someone with the organization that everyone knows will be a NJ Devil next year.
It seems like they could have waited until after the season to announce that he will be going back to the Devils.

I dunno, maybe it's just me.

I think it's weird too, but in a unique way, not a bothersome way. He won't be in a position to help the Devils and hurt us through any decisions he makes here (not that I think he would do that anyway). So, it doesn't really bother me. It's pretty strange to be working for an organization that you know you won't be part of next year though.

This just sounds like a figurehead position for god knows what reason. Since he's going to end up in NJ anyhow how much is he really going to get done in 4 months? Could be that the Blues are stuck paying him through the rest of the season and need to get something out of it if he's not going to get ice time. I'm betting he just serves as an ambassador for the Blues and does appearances and signings until the season is over. Got to be realistic here - NJ is where he wants to end up.

No matter where or what Marty did after New Jersey, he essentially IS the Devil's franchise. I don't think it's a slap in the face or weird at all for the Blues and Devils to handle the situation like they are, in fact I applaud them for it. Marty put them on the map and the truth is that NJ wants Marty to get another ring which is why they approved of him coming to us for a minute and work in any way to help give him the opportunity to do just that. All that does is enhance his overall legacy because let's face facts, when he goes into the HOF it ain't going to be as a Blue.

It takes the salary off the cap for the rest of the year, allows a vet to exit gracefully, and is a win for both sides.

I have no issues with this move. It's the best resolution for the situation if no one wanted to trade something for him.

I'm really torn...part of me wants to get a Brodeur jersey on clearance now that he's retired. I just think it was unbelievably cool that he ended up here, even if it was only for a short while. And regardless of how long he's here in the front office, I think we're just lucky to have him in our organization for any matter of time. If he goes back to Jersey in time, so be it, but for now, he's a Blue and that is awesome.

I liked him as well until I read what he did in his personal life and after that I couldn't stand the guy. So not a fan of Brodeur anymore.

Nah, not just you. It is weird, I wouldn't call it bad, but it seems strange especially given the two clubs' historical relationship. Of all teams in the league, Blues' fans of a certain age probably have less goodwill toward NJ than any other. But really this is just the Blues trying to look a little less silly for making so much of the signing, which they probably shouldn't have done. It drew an absurd amount of attention to the subject of a stopgap backup goalie. Then again, maybe that was the plan all along...

OK, you must know someone is going to mention Patrick Kane here. I assume you're not a fan of his? Sleeping with your wife's sister-in-law is pretty bad (and kinda confusing) but I don't know that it's worse than a millionaire beating up a cabbie over-literally-twenty cents then refusing to apologize to the guy until ordered by a court.

Must have missed this when it was news. What's the low-down? He slept with his wife's sister-in-law? I'm guessing that's his wife's brother's wife, not his own sister.

That would be the one-probably fair to assume that since Marty isn't from Arkansas. But see-I told you it's confusing. Might need a spreadsheet to keep track of whom he's banging...

Guys he played only 7 games for the Blues. Let's not pretend he's built a legacy in St. Louis. He filled a role until Elliot returned.
