Red Army - Documentary on the Soviet Union Hockey Program

Post by cprice12 »

Based on the trailer...it looks fascinating.
Release times are different all across the country. New York & LA have it now. St. Louis will get it on 2/20/15.

I'm going to have to go see this.

Me too! Looks awesome! Those who grew up in the 80s or earlier were in awe of their greatness when they played the USA or Canada.

It opens Feb. 20. I'm going to see it too!

I have to see that! Only two theaters though, kind of inconvenient when we need to find a babysitter and then drag our asses all the way to Manhattan. I guess the saving grace is that it's not a 3 hour documentary.

Who here saw the 87 Canada Cup final? Canada vs. the Soviet Union Red Army! Three 6-5 games that ALL 3 went into OT! Many have said those are the 3 greatest hockey games EVER played and I agree!

Lemieux, Gretzky, and Messier ALL on the same line vs. Krutov, Larionov, and Makarov! But lets be HONEST! There is NO WAY Canadian refs should've been in that game! I recall some VERY biased calls and many non calls against Canada! On the famous series winning play when Gretzky fed Lemieux for the winning goal a Soviet player was clearly knocked down!

IF the refereeing was truly neutral the Red Army would've beaten Canada. They played better as a team than anyone else EVER!

I just saw this yesterday. It's GREAT. Everyone on this board should go see it because we're all hockey fans.

The Red army team lived in a camp for 11 months a year and were only allowed 36 days freedom a year! Every aspect of their lives was controlled. They trained 7 to 8 hours a DAY and even incorporated BALLET & CHESS into their training! One player actually said they wouldn't even let him leave when his own dad died! I know it's harsh but this team has been called the greatest sports team in WORLD history!

It's running this week and next week in St.Louis but then I think it's gone so you better hurry.

I'm fine with watching a documentary at home if I can't make it over there for it.

It's a documentary. Not Star Wars VII.

I AM going to support it. But I might not make it over there before it leaves the theater. I'm a pretty f'ing busy guy. So I may rent it or even buy the damn thing. We'll see.

Now please...shut up.
