Shatty leads NHL in assists and +/- rating among defensemen

I just checked the NHL records and I was surprised to see Shattenkirk leads the NHL in assists and plus/minus rating. I would have thought Pietrangelo would be our star defenseman aka the closest thing to our new "Pronger," - but it looks Shattenkirk has that reign instead.

Perhaps:
Shattenkirk = MacInnis
Pie = Pronger ?

How strange would it be if Shatty won a Norris before Petro? I'm not saying he will, but obviously the Norris is skewed towards high scoring D-men. If Shatty keeps up this pace, he'll be in the running.

He's already in the running... he's quietly having one of the best seasons in the league for a winning team.

Petro isn't even close to how good Pronger was for us.

I think quietly is the operative word here. When you lead defensemen in both +/- and scoring, you deserve legit consideration for the Norris. But, it seems like it's hard to actually get until you've been mentioned for a couple of years. I think he'll deserve consideration, but I'm not convinced that he'll actually get it.

He is having a great year and the sports writers love him. I wouldn't be surprised if he were nominated for the Norris but to win the first year nominated is not so likely.

Petro is having a bad season for probably a host of reasons, I guess the biggest being his niece. If his head was in the game and he didn't have her situation weighing on him, he'd be doing better. His +/- has trended in the right direction since the recent win streak and that's a big positive and a big reason for the streak.

Interestingly, while everyone rags on Cole, his +/- is pretty solid. Yeah he doesn't produce the points but he doesn't do too much harm, overall. The mistakes he makes can be attributed to not getting consistent ice time to really generate a flow.

Shattenkirk, though. He makes that trade completely worth it. He's a keeper.

I like Cole by and large. Most games you never notice the guy. Which, for the style of game he plays, is about the best compliment you could give him.

Jackman on the other hand... I'm so freaking done with him it's insane. Thanks for your service dude but time has not been kind to you.
