It will change over generations. It's the second most popular sport in the nation among 12-24 year olds. With the growing Latino population, it's only a matter of time until it takes over. 8% of Americans polled listed soccer as their favorite sport, less than 4% listed hockey. The most popular sports 3 or 4 generations ago were baseball, boxing, and horse racing. We get that you don't like soccer (To the point that you accidentally called it sucker.... whoops! I see what you did there.) To say that it will NEVER be big is asinine.

You mean PLAYING soccer is their favorite. That's true in many places worldwide because you can practically play naked with a ball of twine and 4 sticks in the ground. I already agreed soccer is by far the biggest sport on earth.

You realize back in the 1950s they said the same thing? They said soccer would be mainstream in a couple generations in the USA. NEVER happened! Not even close! The NASL failed and a solid league didn't form for almost 50 years!

Many in the pro soccer crowd also said soccer would explode when Beckham came in 2006. I remember some actually said MLS would be as big as the NFL because of Becky! Interest and ratings increased for a while but collapsed when people realized what a snoozefest it is. Beckham left MLS and no one noticed because 99% of the nation didn't watch!

It's NEVER happening here dude! FUGGHEDABOUTIT!

I hear something...sounds like a screen door flapping in the wind...

Yeah, so...baseball was REALLY popular 30 years ago (which I guess explains the $9B-B-B-BILLION in revenue MLB took in last year) but isn't now. Whereas soccer, which has seen by far the greatest increases in viewership and revenue generation in this county in recent years among pro sports, will never be popular because-wait for it-these things never change.

To think, I used to doubt whether or not we're dealing with a 14-year-old here.
