My take on the Islanders' third jerseys...
They kind of got close to having a nice looking jersey/uniform...but they screwed it up.
- The logo on the chest kind of sucks. It's a little too big, it has a chrome-like look to it for some reason, which is weird and doesn't go with anything else on the jersey. WTF? The stick blade comes down way too far and it looks too big. They needed to just make it a solid white "NY" (no awful chrome outline) with the stick coming down off the 'Y' but not as big and not as far...and make the whole thing a little smaller.
- I like the white stripe at the bottom, but I'm not a fan of the polo shirt notch at the bottom of the jersey on each side. What is that for?
- The goofy stripes on the elbows and pants suck. Why not make them wrap all the way around the elbow? And the stripes on the pants look like the Flames jerseys from a few years ago where the stripes just angled up and just stopped...which looks horrible. No stripes on the pants is the way to go for this uniform. They got them right on the socks though.
- The white shoulders look good.
- The mock draw strings look good...I like them on this jersey.
- The "NY" on the pants looks stupid...and it's too big. Awful. it just needs to go away on the pants.
- I don't like the white nameplate with blue letters. Just keep it simple and go white letters.
- Love the color scheme. The blue, orange and white rock. I have always liked their colors.
- I do like the fact that it seems to be an attempt at a fairly simple overall jersey design...but it falls short of also being a good design. It looks pieced together in places and it doesn't look like all of the elements work well together at all. The logo has a lot to do with it. If you screw up the logo, which they did, you have screwed up the entire jersey.
The number of really bad jerseys that have come down pipes of NHL teams over the past 20+ years is mind boggling.
It's not hard to make a nice jersey. But some teams act like it is. I don't know what some teams are thinking sometimes.
