BLUES (16-7-2) at PREDATORS (16-6-2)

TV: FS-MW, FS-TN

Season series: This game is for first place in the Central Division. The Nashville Predators and St. Louis Blues split their first two games, in St. Louis. Predators right wing Filip Forsberg has two goals and three assists.

In a 4-3 Blues win Nov. 13, Predators goalie Pekka Rinne had one of his two worst games of the season. Rinne, who ranks first in the NHL in wins (16), with a 1.83 goals-against average and .932 save percentage, has allowed four goals in a game twice this season.

St. Louis' leading scorers against Nashville are right wing Vladimir Tarasenko (one goal, two assists) and center Jori Lehtera (one goal, two assists).

Blues team scope: Goalie Martin Brodeur will make his debut with St. Louis, coach Ken Hitchcock said after a 4-1 loss Wednesday at the Chicago Blackhawks that was played by Jake Allen.

After 1,259 games with the New Jersey Devils, the NHL record for a goaltender, it will be Brodeur's first in another NHL uniform. Brodeur, who signed a one-year contract Tuesday, last played April 13, 2014, a 3-2 Devils win against the Boston Bruins at Prudential Center.

Brodeur was brought in to split time with Allen while Brian Elliott recovers from a knee injury sustained Nov. 25 against the Ottawa Senators.

"I've been waiting for a great opportunity and it came from the Blues," Brodeur said Tuesday. "... I feel good in the net. Until I play games it's going to be hard to tell before that."

Brodeur has an NHL-record 688 wins. His 124 shutouts also are first in NHL history. He won the Stanley Cup three times, the Calder Trophy in 1993-94, and the Vezina Trophy four times.

"I just want to have fun," Brodeur said. "I've got nothing to prove to myself. I just want to go out and enjoy the season and enjoy the winning way like I was able to do in New Jersey for a lot of years."

The Blues confirmed to the St. Louis Post Dispatch that defenseman Jay Bouwmeester (groin) would miss his sixth straight game. The Blues are 6-2-0 against Central Division opponents and 7-4-1 on the road. Tarasenko has five points (four goals, one assist) in his past seven games, and defenseman Alex Pietrangelo, Bouwmeester's usual partner, has six points (one goal, five assists) in his past six games. The Blues are 3-1-0 in the second half of back-to-back games.

Predators team scope: Forward Derek Roy (upper body) is likely to sit out for a third straight game. The Predators website reported that lines were unchanged at practice Wednesday. Forward Matt Cullen has skated on left wing on the third line in Roy's place with center Mike Fisher and forward Olli Jokinen at right wing. Roy played 75 games for St. Louis last season.

Nashville is 10-1-1 at Bridgestone Arena and 6-2-1 against Central Division opponents. The Predators are 11-4-2 in one-goal games, and their power play is 3-for-36 (8.3 percent) in the past 11 games.

Defenseman Roman Josi, who has an assist in three straight games, can tie a personal best with an assist in four. Center Mike Ribeiro has a goal in two straight games.

Still really pissed about last night's performance. I imagine the Blues are even more so.
Sooo....
I guess it's good to get right back on the ice tonight.

A loss tonight would just be doubly depressing. Really want to win this one in regulation to offset the loss to Chicago last night and get those 2 pts. right back.

For some reason, we have done pretty well in the second game of back-to-backs this year. Let's hope that trend continues, especially against a Division rival when we can take over 1st place.

2 points, please. :letsgoblues:

Ya this. We're supposed to play defensive first and key the offense in transition...but lately we just skate in circles and watch the other team shell our net.

Steen and Schwartz haven't looked sharp lately. Steen especially looks a bit slow and predictable while quarterbacking the PP. Hoping from a big night from them. Berglund needs to start contributing a bit more as well.

Ladies and gentlemen, the greatest goalie that ever lived...

I'm actually officially not excited about going on Saturday. These guys are a mess at the moment and the Isles aren't exactly a pushover anymore.

Disappointing. And that's all I'll say
“It makes no difference what men think of war, said the judge. War endures. As well ask men what they think of stone. War was always here. Before man was, war waited for him. The ultimate trade awaiting its ultimate practitioner. That is the way it was and will be. That way and not some other way.”

You notice when the Blues called a timeout with about a minute left they went back to the bench but Hitch just stood there and said NOTHING! What's the point of a timeout if you say nothing?

Marty was fairly good. He was not spectacular but not bad. He's had a long time off so what can you expect?

The great: Frank came'a scoring. The tank never left, it just needed a refuel.

The decent: Marty played exactly as he was being paid to be - a backup and a stopgap while we wait for Ells to heal up and come back. Can't complain. He looked good for the role he is playing for us. The thing with Brodeur that I forgot was that, there are times he looks like utter crap in the past but he suddenly gets rolling.

The crap: Anyone wearing a mustard-colored jersey.

The worrysome: Steen. What the hell is up with him.

The annoying: How many D did we dress tonight?

The invisible: Some guy name Stastny.

The best part: Plenty of games in the season to still make things amazing.

Good to see teh Schwartz get another goal. Still looking for more production from Steen, Oshie, Berglund and Stastny (although he did have an assist). WTF happened to these guys?

I can't really decide if we are snakebit, or suffering from a rash of poor execution. It seems like we are able to generate a lot of pressure at times, but just can't take advantage and finish (e.g. 0 for 9 on the PP in the last two games). Then we have a defensive miscue or boneheaded pass and give up a goal.

watch the STL line in the O zone. Then watch Backes Steen Oshie Stastny Whoever.
MASSIVE difference in puck moving. BSOS just kinda grinds around the boards. STL makes things happen. Lots of movement. Using their creativity.
