Parise: Blues 'bully you around'

Post by dmiles2186 »

Felt this deserved it's own thread outside the GDT. I guess Parise still isn't used to the rough and tumble Western Conference yet. Or maybe he's just okay with Scandella pulling his garbage but no one else playing physical.

If you’re a fan of bitterness between two hockey teams, then perhaps you should root for a Minnesota Wild – St. Louis Blues playoff series.

Things got a little ugly at times in what was eventually a 4-3 shootout win for the Blues. For every pretty moment from the likes of Vladimir Tarasenko (another goal, plus the shootout clincher), there was a controversial moment.

Zach Parise vented about the Wild’s loss to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune’s Michael Russo, saying it was “frustrating not winning a game they felt they deserve.”

The real bulletin board material came when Parise addressed the Blues’ punishing ways, though.

“That’s their game. That’s what they try to do,” Parise told Russo. “They try to bully you around the ice. It’s a waste of time trying to get involved with that. It’s stupid.”

Jeez, Parise’s really speaking in bland cliches there, huh? If only he spoke his mind on this subject …

The Wild play the Blues three more times this season, with the games being congested toward the end of the 2014-15 campaign (their next meeting is in St. Louis on March 14). Perhaps those hard feelings will dissipate by then. On the other hand, if significant playoff seeding is on the line, those games could be that much more interesting.

Here’s Tarasenko’s goal, in case you’re curious:

Ironic because the Blues have been accused by their own fans of not being tough enough!

If Parise wanted an easy time of it he should have stayed in the easy conference.

What a sore loser. This is hockey, not figure skating. What's more, I don't remember any Wild players getting checked in the face.

He's essentially complaining because the Blues play Western Conference hockey. ZP isn't in NJ anymore.

Maybe if he would have worried a bit more about scoring his shot in the shootout and worried less about how the Blues hurt his feelings they might have gotten those two points that he's crying about.

Scandella fined for the hit on Oshie.

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-puck- ... um=twitter
On Saturday, Minnesota Wild defenseman Marco Scandella earned a new 5-year, $20-million contract extension. He celebrated by hitting T.J. Oshie in the head.

This is generally frowned upon by the NHL, which is why Scandella was fined for the hit on Monday:

Minnesota Wild defenseman Marco Scandella has been fined $2,755.38, the maximum allowable under the Collective Bargaining Agreement, for an illegal check to the head of St. Louis Blues forward T.J. Oshie during NHL Game No. 351 in St. Paul on Saturday, November 29, the National Hockey League’s Department of Player Safety announced today.

The incident occurred at 8:45 of the first period. Scandella was assessed a minor penalty for illegal check to the head.

Oshie returned to the game, which is probably the reason why Scandella wasn’t suspended here, along with him being a first-time offender.

Michael Russo writes that the fine is “half of one day’s pay” for Scandella, a.k.a. the max amount allowable under the CBA for a first-time offender.

Clearly, the 5 year/$20 million contract begins next season, because if $2755.38 is half of a day's pay, dude is only making $2 million. Lucky for him he decided to be an asshat this year, before his big raise kicks in.

It's the max allowable for a first time offender under the CBA, actually. They couldn't fine him more.

Did the NHL ever say anything about Shattenkirk's hit?

Probably not...because it was weak sauce and he shouldn't have been ejected in the first place.

Shatty said that he didn't expect to hear from the league over it. I don't remember exactly when he said it, but it must have been a decent amount of time after the game. He went on to say that "at this point it would blindside him if he heard from the league."
