BLUES (15-6-2) at WILD (13-9-0)

TV: FS-MW, FS-N, FX-CA

Season series: This is the first game of the season between the St. Louis Blues and Minnesota Wild. The Blues won four of the five games in 2013-14, with the Wild's lone win coming in a 4-2 victory April 10 at Xcel Energy Center. Forward T.J. Oshie had five goals and an assist and Jaden Schwartz had three goals and three assists against Minnesota. The Blues have won nine of the past 10 meetings between the teams.

Blues team scope: Goaltender Brian Elliott is a perfect 6-0-0 against the Wild in his career, but is week-to-week after suffering a knee injury Tuesday against the Ottawa Senators. That means the Blues will need to find a different formula in defeating the Wild. Jake Allen made 13 saves in a 4-3 come-from-behind win against the Edmonton Oilers on Friday night in St. Louis, but has never faced Minnesota. Allen seems likely to get the start again Saturday. If the Blues choose to go in a different direction, it will be Jordan Binnington, who would be making his NHL debut. A third-round pick in the 2011 NHL Draft, Binnington is 6-2-1 with a 1.89 goals-against average in nine games this season with the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League.

Wild team scope: Minnesota is coming off a 5-4 overtime win Friday against the Dallas Stars at American Airlines Center. The Wild led 3-0 late into the second period, but surrendered three goals in the final four minutes of the period. Dallas grabbed a 4-3 lead in the third before a sixth-attacker goal by the Wild sent the game to overtime and defenseman Marco Scandella scored his second OT winner of the season. Coach Mike Yeo stuck with Kuemper in the third despite a sloppy end to the second period, meaning Niklas Backstrom will almost certainly start Saturday. Yeo hinted as much following the team's morning skate on Friday. Backstrom is 6-9-1 against St. Louis.
