Sadly (and bizarrely) JNE is correct.

Easy there JNE. He's just practicing with the team. No details have been released yet.
But I guess this means they don't have a whole lot of confidence in Binnington to back up Allen.

I think it just means that they want Binnington playing in the AHL instead of backing up in the NHL.

Doesn't Brodeur have more wins than any other goalie in NHL history? Plus like 3 Cups!

That is a valid statement. I hope that is the case. Would hate for the organization to destroy confidence in another goalie.

Unless Ells is out for a long time, this is stupid. Allen and Binn can hold things down for as long as necessary.

As an aside, I seem to remember back in the day when Brodeur was an RFA didn't he get an offer sheet by the Blues?

That doesn't matter - the guy is 42 and I wonder if he has anything left in the tank. We signed Krapibulin at age 40 and he played only like 4 games last year and had a save percentage in the gutter and thankfully hung up the skates.

Also, Patty Roy won a few cups too but would we want him on the team now? Past ones prime is past ones prime. Hang it up, Marty.

(Frank)...there goes another five draft picks and a HoF defenseman.

But seriously, I was just thinking about who was available for nothing and this was the top name that came to mind for me too. Not shocked the Blues want him to come work out for them.

At worst our young goalies get to work with a HoF guy and see something about how he did what he did for so long.

I don't see this as a long term solution to anything, but no harm in working the guy out.

Yeah, this sounds like the Tom Barrasso experiment v2.0. That worked out fantastic.

What's Cujo doing these days? Think of all the jerseys they could sell!

He was one of the best to play in the league. That is exactly why I'd hate to see him sign anywhere. It would tarnish what he did in New Jersey. He almost didn't go out on top when he retired. I think he played a season or two more than he should have.

That being said. I'd drive down to STL from Peoria to see him play in the Note, just to say I saw it.

If he impresses in the tryout, maybe they sign him on the cheap to fill in. I dunno. It can't hurt to bring him in and kick the tires. Nothing wrong with having options.

This does have me a bit concerned though that Elliott's injury might be serious... because I don't know if Brodeur would just want to fill in until Elliott returns, because if Elliott comes back after missing 20 games, then what? They release Brodeur? He's cool with that? I don't think so.

I'm cautiously concerned right now.

Did you guys hear last year that Freddy Braithwaite was looking for one last chance? Maybe they should sign him!

I'm torn. On one hand, it would be pretty cool to see one of the greatest netminders of all time in the Note. On the other, it's a Willie Mays in a Mets jersey type of situation. It will be weird to look back on it 5-10 years from now.

I'm with Curt. It doesn't hurt to kick the tires on the guy. I believe this could be one of those situations where you just let Allen start as many games as he can between now and when Ells comes back, with limited exposure for Binnington. It will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Remember, the Blues did something like this with Arnott a few years ago after they let him walk as a FA (and no one signed him). They brought him in to practice with the team but didn't end up signing him.

I'm going to the game on Dec 6th at the mausoleum. I do not, under any circumstances, want to see Brodeur playing in that game. I want to see a full strength Blues squad because, strange as it is to say, the islanders are really franking good and a mesozoic goalie who hasn't played this season isn't my idea of a full strength squad. As it stands right now I'm already worried enough about that game as it is.

I'd also like to see new Blue Jordan Eberle.... make it so, Army!
