SENATORS (9-7-4) at BLUES (14-6-1)
TV: RDS, TSN5, FS-MW
Season series: It's the second meeting in four days between the Ottawa Senators and St. Louis Blues. The Blues won 3-2 at Canadian Tire Centre on Saturday to snap a two-game losing skid. Alexander Steen's goal midway through the second period turned out to be the game-winner, and Alex Pietrangelo had two assists.
Senators team scope: The Senators opened a five-game road trip on Monday with a 4-3 loss to the Detroit Red Wings. The Senators got a pair of third-period goals from Erik Karlsson and Mike Hoffman after falling behind 4-1, but were not able to get the equalizer. Kyle Turris and Karlsson each had a goal and an assist, and goalie Craig Anderson stopped 39 shots. The trip will also see Ottawa face the Florida Panthers, Tampa Bay Lightning and New York Islanders during a stretch in which the Senators will play 11 of 15 away from home.
Blues team scope: The Blues wrapped up a four-game trip Sunday with a 4-2 victory against the Winnipeg Jets to salvage the final two games after losing the first two. Winnipeg native Ryan Reaves broke a 2-2 tie with a third-period goal that proved to be the difference. Steen, another Winnipeg native, had two assists as did Pietrangelo, giving him four in back-to-back games. "This is a very tough schedule," Blues coach Ken Hitchcock said. "To come out with wins [in back-to-back games] and at the end of the [road trip], I'm really impressed with the way we competed [Saturday] and [Sunday]." Defenseman Jay Bouwmeester (lower body) saw his 'Ironman Streak' snapped at 737 games. "[Bouwmeester] felt terrible," Hitchcock said. "We all felt terrible that he couldn't go [Sunday]. That's really emotionally tough for him to break that streak." Defenseman Barret Jackman is expected to play Tuesday and will move past Brett Hull into third place for most games played (745) in franchise history.

Wow. With this game, Jackman will have played more games in a Blues sweater than Brett Hull. Craziness.

At times they looked great. At times they didn't. Should have gotten 2 from that one. Hopefully Elliott is ok.

What's the word on Elliott and who will be Allen's backup? I'm interested in seeing Binnington, though he probably wouldn't get any playing time. More likely Climie comes up if it's a long term absence by Ells. Binnington needs the playing time and he won't get it outside of Chicago right now.

Isn't the shootout master Oshie 0 for 2 this year in shootouts?

Saw some Twitter speculation about this last night. Climie isn't actually Blues property. He's signed by the Wolves. From what it sounds like, the Blues might be interested in signing Climie, but the two sides haven't really talked before.glen a richter wrote:What's the word on Elliott and who will be Allen's backup? Definitely let a point slip away last night. I don't know if anybody else felt this way, but once Ottawa pulled their goalie, it felt more like when they would score than if. We seemed sloppy at that point.
Hope Elliott is OK.

This isn't really game-related, but today in practice Backes dropped his gloves with Tarasenko. Apparently Tarasenko hit him with a high stick which prompted him to drop his gloves ready to fight, but didn't get further than that. I don't know if there's anything to make of that or not.

Several Blues writers on Twitter (JR, Allsman, Korac). Korac just clarified that there wasn't a high stick though.not_a_wings_fan wrote:Where is that information from?cardsfan04 wrote:This isn't really game-related, but today in practice Backes dropped his gloves with Tarasenko. Agree that it's interesting. I would be shocked if this landed anybody on the block though. Oshie commented on it earlier and said this was building for awhile. That has me a little curious, but I doubt this turns into anything more.

Well, if Tank keeps playing like he has, this isn't Backes' team anymore. If there are differences of opinion about how to play, prepare, etc. then this may not be done.
Is the team breaking into factions?
We will see how this goes, but I don't like this at all. This is the kind of shit that starts losing streaks and rebuilds. Shouldn't be that much tension between guys on a winning team.

Hopefully, both of them can just let it go and put this behind them. I have a lot of respect for both guys, and I would really hate for this to affect team chemistry.

As long as Vova wasn't sleeping with Mrs. Backes and has to be traded I think they'll be ok.

I see it as nothing more than character building for the team. Actually, when I first read about this, my thought was, 'Wow, Tarasenko might have a little more Captain in him than I initially thought.'
