CAPITALS (7-6-3) at BLUES (11-4-1)

TV: CSN-DC+, FS-MW

Season series: The Washington Capitals swept two games from the St. Louis Blues last season, winning by identical 4-1 scores. Nicklas Backstrom scored twice and Alex Ovechkin had a goal and two assists in the most recent game, at Scottrade Center on April 8. The goal was Ovechkin's 50th of the season, his fifth season of 50 goals or more.

Capitals team scope: The Capitals boarded a plane for St. Louis after a 1-0 home loss against the New Jersey Devils on Friday that snapped a three-game winning streak. It was the first time the Capitals were shut out this season. Washington begins a three-game trip Saturday that will also see the Capitals face the Arizona Coyotes and Colorado Avalanche. Justin Peters is the projected starter in goal after Braden Holtby stopped 27 shots against the Devils.

Blues team scope: The Blues have won nine of 10 after a 4-3 home victory against the Nashville Predators on Thursday. Right wing T.J. Oshie returned after missing seven games due to a concussion and scored his first goal of the season. Center Paul Stastny scored the game-winner with 5:54 remaining in the third period, and goalie Jake improved to 5-1-0 and has a League-leading 1.67 goals-against average. Allen is fourth in the NHL with a .933 save percentage and leads all rookie goalies with five wins. Thursday marked the first time this season the Blues had a full lineup at their disposal. "Speed, skill, transition ... they got three lines that can come at you," Blues coach Ken Hitchcock said of the Capitals after an optional practice Friday." The "STL Line" of Jaden Schwartz, Vladimir Tarasenko and Jori Lehtera has 30 points in seven games and 38 points in 10 games (16 goals, 22 assists). Tarasenko (seven games), Lehtera (six games) and Schwartz (five games) all have point streaks. Brian Elliott will start in goal.

Think they'll play up the Ovechkin vs. Tarasenko angle at all?

We won't have to be perfect to win this game, but as long as our D plays solid, we'll be all right. 2 points, please. :letsgoblues:

Got to attend tonight. The Blues just seemed to control almost the entire game. Even when they put on the breaks and went into prevention mode in the 3rd, they still seemed to rarely get in trouble, and had the vast majority of the scoring chances.

Really fun game to watch.

So apparently Saturday was a standing room only crowd. Since they've struggled with attendance, is this a sign of things to come? Is this just because it was a Saturday and Ovie was in town? Or are people starting to buy in?

What else does this team have to do to win people over except win a Cup?

Nevermind, answered my own question. :?

But still...supporting a team through thick and thin is what it's all about. I know the bandwagon will roll in later on, but it's kind of disappointing there aren't more real fans. Life isn't just about winning, contrary to what Charlie Sheen says. It isn't just a constant string of positivity, but I digress. Live your lives the way you want to. I just think that a championship is going to be way sweeter for those of us who've stuck it out all the way.

Oh, absolutely. Winning is validation for all those times we've bought in only to fail. Without that buyin, it can't be as sweet.

That place really should be sold out every night. And, not Checketts version of sold out, actually sold out with every seat filled. I can get middle of the week games, especially early in the season. But, it astounds me that a weekend game or a playoff game is ever not at capacity.
