Season series: It's the first of five games between the St. Louis Blues and Nashville Predators, who will play again Thursday in St. Louis. The Blues won all five games against the Predators last season, including a 4-1 victory March 15 in Nashville in the teams' most recent game. Patrik Berglund scored twice to lead the Blues. St. Louis has won six in a row against the Predators and 10 of the past 11.

Predators team scope: Saturday marks the final stop on the Predators' six-game trip; they've gone 3-2-0 so far, alternating wins and losses. Matt Cullen's go-ahead goal with 6:13 remaining in the third period was the difference in a 3-2 victory against the Dallas Stars on Thursday. Former Blues center Derek Roy and defenseman Mattias Ekholm had two assists each as the Predators snapped a three-game losing streak in Dallas. "I liked a lot of things about our game [Thursday]," Predators coach Peter Laviolette said. "I liked our start. I liked our special teams. I liked our response when faced with a little bit of adversity. It was a good team win, good road win." The Predators improved to 4-2-1 away from Bridgestone Arena and will look to finish strong before returning home to face the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday.

Blues team scope: Goaltender Jake Allen came within 3:25 of earning his third consecutive shutout but had to make a save in the waning seconds to hold off the New Jersey Devils 4-3 on Thursday as the Blues won their seventh game in a row, matching a streak set last season (Dec. 28, 2013-Jan. 9, 2014). Vladimir Tarasenko had a goal and an assist, giving him eight goals and three assists in his past six games. Jaden Schwartz (one goal, one assist) and Jori Lehtera (two assists) also chipped in against the Devils. In four November games the line of Tarasenko, Schwartz and Lehtera has combined for 14 points. Brian Elliott will get the start in goal. Forward T.J. Oshie is out indefinitely because of a concussion but did visit the team Thursday. Of the Predators, coach Ken Hitchcock said, "You look at that roster, especially up front more than anything. But man, it looks like half the hockey club's changed. Obviously for the better. They've got a lot of skill now. It's like a change overnight. ... I don't think their record is an accident. Obviously they know how to play."

It's great to have 3 guys who can potentially average a point per game or more, but it doesn't mean a whole lot of anything if they all get their point on the same goal. Need more goals, badly.

We need to figure out that teams get up to play STL these days and we aren't the up and coming team that no one notices.

I'm not sure I like Stastny and Backes on the same line.

Good game. The Preds have set the bar and the teams needs to learn from them. That cobbled together Preds team looks like the real deal. They play with hunger because some of those players don't know where their next paycheck is going to come from after this year, including Ribs, and it's obvious they have both talent and the desire to stay playing pro hockey. And Rinne looked fantastic. Our guys need to learn from that and I seriously feel like Backes needs to sit down and catch up with himself, he hasn't looked too good to me. Outside of Lehtera and Frank and Berglund who really looks like he's trying to make things happen so at this point I can't fault the guy, I'd love...love...love to see us play with that same level of hunger. More gelling time I think is also in order and like a previous poster mentioned, keeps Backes and Stast off the same line, just didn't look good tonight. Sky's not falling.

I'm thinking it's 10 games from back in the Brent Johnson era, but I'd have to plug it into the google machine to be sure. Only reason that streak comes to mind is that I looked up the Blues shutout streak record a few days ago and saw that 10W is the record streak for a goalie.
