BLUES (2-1-1) at DUCKS (4-1-0)

TV: FS-MW, PRIME

Season series: This is the first of three games between the St. Louis Blues and Anaheim Ducks. The Ducks won all three games against the Blues last season. Ryan Getzlaf had a goal and an assist in each of the first two games, and Andrew Cogliano scored the only goal in a 1-0 Anaheim win on Feb. 28. Jaden Schwartz led St. Louis with two goals.

Blues team scope: St. Louis bounced back from a 1-0 shootout loss to the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday with a 6-1 victory against the Arizona Coyotes on Saturday. But the win was costly. Center Paul Stastny will not play against the Ducks, according to coach Ken Hitchcock, after he sustained an upper-body injury on his first shift and did not return. Hitchcock said Stastny is day-to-day. Schwartz scored his first career hat trick Saturday. "Jaden's playing better and better. He has a lot of tenacity and a great shot," Hitchcock said. "I was really happy for him that he got the third goal; it's good for his confidence." Brian Elliott will likely be back in goal in Anaheim after backup Jake Allen made 24 saves in the win at Arizona.

Ducks team scope: Anaheim comes in having won four straight after Cogliano and Corey Perry scored in the third period to lift the Ducks past the Minnesota Wild in their home opener on Friday. The 2-1 win was Anaheim's second come-from-behind victory in four games. "Unfortunately we tend to get behind the eight ball sometimes in the first couple periods and force ourselves to [come from behind]," defenseman Cam Fowler told the Ducks website after practice Saturday. "That's something that we're trying to fix and address because we'd like to be a team that can play with the lead and not have to come back all the time. But it's still a good quality to have, and I just think we're a resilient group." Perry has a five-game point streak (five goals, two assists) to open the season. Ryan Kesler, acquired from the Vancouver Canucks during the summer, has two goals and three assists.

Day to day with a busted wrist is a good trick. More like month to month.

No matter, this team is fine with or without Paulie Walnuts. Blues win 5-2. Schwartz duplicates his hatty feat, Lehtera nabs assists on all 5 goals.

The Ducks are in a whole different league than the Yotes. Let's hope we can ride the momentum of last night's win and put up a good showing.

2 points, please. :letsgoblues:

This.

Apparently the flu is going around the team as well. "Another forward" is sick and it looks like Porter and Magnus will be playing...unless something changes by gametime.

I HATE YOU, WEST COAST.

I'm guessing Lehtera is the one with the flu. No worldly reason otherwise for him to be scratched. Hopefully it's just the flu and not ebola though that shit would be just this teams luck.

Wow, the Ducks have won 5 straight against the Blues. Anderssen looked Giguere like at times.

Some fans are complaining about how Oshie looks lost. How he has regressed somewhat from the progress he made last year.

The West is just that stacked. You simply can not make a mistake or try to squeak by if you expect to win.

Stast being out and Lehtera possibly being sick is absolutely no excuse for our forwards not to show up and the D is too stacked to allow three goals in, I don't care what team we play. I'm writing all of this off as the team playing the West and hitting a brick wall due to gelling and nothing more. Hitch should be on top of this.

I guess the first 5 games of the season is a good enough sample to make a projection of how the rest of his season will go. Players typically play at the same level all season long without any variance, so Oshie's clearly going to play 82 games and not register a single point. That being known, he's going to log one of the worst season performances in the history of the league. It might be wise to trade him before others figure out our advanced precognitive logic...

So on this little West Coast trip, the Blues gave up 4 goals and went 1-1-1. The West is a gauntlet.

You can blame your St. Louis Blues Mgt. team for that. They want to have more weekend games. It's been that way for a long time now. That's also why we have so many games at the end of the season to catch up our games in hand. I think one year we had 7 games in hand at one point in the season. We always seem to go into the playoffs with very little rest and it is probably one of the main reasons we can't get past the 1st-2nd rounds. So yeah I agree the schedule is annoying.

If the Blues are serious about the Cup they should schedule more games now and fewer at the end of the season so they would be well rested for a Cup run.
