BLUES (1-1-1) at COYOTES (2-1-0)
TV: FS-MW, FS-A
Season series: The St. Louis Blues took two of three from the Arizona Coyotes last season; T.J. Oshie (Jan. 14) and Patrik Berglund (March 2) each had a two-goal game in a St. Louis victory. Oliver Ekman-Larsson scored twice in the three games for Arizona.
Blues team scope: Jake Allen is expected to make his first NHL start since April 21, 2013. Allen appeared in 15 games during the 2012-13 season when he went 9-4-1 with a 2.46 goals-against average and a .905 save percentage. He won 33 games in the American Hockey League last season; he's No. 27 on the NHL.com Top 60 prospect ranking.
Carl Gunnarsson appears to be getting closer to making his St. Louis debut following offseason hip surgery. Gunnarsson, acquired from the Toronto Maple Leafs during the summer for defenseman Roman Polak, was cleared for contact earlier this week and took part in the morning skate but didn't play in a 1-0 shootout loss to the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday.
Coyotes team scope: Changes to the lines at practice Friday saw Kyle Chipchura skating with Sam Gagner and Lauri Korpikoski, and David Moss with Brandon McMillan and Joe Vitale, according to AZcentral.com. Chris Summers and Connor Murphy were reunited as a defense pair.
Arizona coach Dave Tippett wasn't saying whether Mike Smith, who has allowed 10 goals and has an .815 save percentage in two games, would get the start. Devan Dubnyk was strong in his Coyotes debut, stopping 24 shots in a 3-2 overtime win against the Kings on Oct. 11. "We're not going to get into a big goaltender controversy every week around here," Tippett said, according to AZcentral.com.

Not sure if he's suiting up, but Petteri Lindbohm has been recalled.

“It makes no difference what men think of war, said the judge. War endures. As well ask men what they think of stone. War was always here. Before man was, war waited for him. The ultimate trade awaiting its ultimate practitioner. That is the way it was and will be. That way and not some other way.”

Sorry flaschat broskies, didn't have access to a computer tonight. But I'll take a dominating win with a hattie to boot. We looked good from start to finish as we should have against the Yotes. On to the Pond.

Good win! But at what cost....
Hopefully adam banks....I mean statsny is ok. A sling probably means some sort of sprain or break though right?

That was about as dominant a win as you can get. Lehtera with his first 3 nhl points. Schwartz and Vova dominating... the loss of Stastny now will only make his eventual return seem like making a trade....

This team doesn't need Paul Stastny to make the playoffs. He can be hurt all the way to the end as long as he shows up to help claim the cup.
I bet he has a fracture forearm or a sprained elbow. Would be surprised to see him in the next few games, but the way they played tonight after he got hurt, maybe that's ok.

The good thing is we've got guys like Paajarvi and Porter on the bench that can add either skill or grit to the lineup. Unfortunately, I have a feeling we'll see Hitch bump Ott up to the top line so he doesn't mess up chemistry elsewhere. While I won't be happy about that, it's not like we don't have enough talent to 'scrape' by. Just a bummer that we've played 4 games and Statsny was dinged up in 2 of them.

I won't bitch about it because it is what it is, but I was saying all along that Lehtera was the bigger signing. We'll see what we'll see as the season progresses, but I don't really think this team needed Stastny in the first place. Not that I'm unhappy about him being in the note. They righted a wrong that was committed when they didn't draft him in the first place, but I think the bigger need to cut some fat (Berglund, Ott, LaPierre, Jackman, Leopold and Reaves (there, I said it: no need for Reaves on this team when they could bring up any handful of guys from Chicago to do the same job)) wasn't met.
Moral of my post: they'll be fine without Stastny, as Dr. Woland eloquently stated. And as cliche as it is to say things like "Getting him back will be like making a trade", it really will be. Let him sit until January for all I care, he'll be good to go in the new year, ready to rock fresh as a daisy in the playoffs and we'll beat some ass when it counts the most.

Yep. Sucks that he's hurt. But, we signed him to win a Cup, not to play an 83rd game. Just make sure he's good to go by then.drwoland wrote:This team doesn't need Paul Stastny to make the playoffs. He can be hurt all the way to the end as long as he shows up to help claim the cup.
