It's always great to have a schedule where they play 2 in 3 days and then just sit for an eternity. Calgary and Boston are already at 5 games and we're sitting here at 2. So, you know...awesome.
BLUES (1-1-0) at KINGS (2-1-1)

TV: FS-MW, FS-W

Season series: The Los Angeles Kings won two of three games against the St. Louis Blues last season, winning once at home and once on the road.

Forward Tyler Toffoli had the second two-goal game of his career and scored the game-winner in the Kings' 3-2 win in Los Angeles on Dec. 2, 2013.

T.J. Oshie scored three goals in the three games and has six in 18 career games against the Kings.

Blues team scope: After four days off, the Blues' get back to work Thursday. They skated twice during a team-bonding trip to Palm Desert, Calif., but with three games in four nights starting Thursday, coach Ken Hitchcock canceled an on-ice session scheduled for Wednesday.

"Skating four days in a row doesn't usually wash well when you're going to play three in four," Hitchcock told the St. Louis Post Dispatch. "This is also a team that really responds to time away from the rink. They respond in a very positive way. The last two practices have been demanding, and today gives them a chance to catch their breath."

Hitchcock also said forward Patrik Berglund will play Thursday after missing a 4-1 win against the Calgary Flames on Saturday with an upper-body injury, and that Brian Elliott will start in goal.

Kings team scope: Much as it did for stretches during the Stanley Cup Playoffs last spring, the line of Jeff Carter, Toffoli and Tanner Pearson is making major contributions to Los Angeles' success. Pearson leads the Kings with four goals, Carter has three and Toffoli has two. All three players have size and skill, but coach Darryl Sutter said the line's versatility is what stands out to him.

"They're scoring goals in different ways, contributing opportunities in different ways, which at the end of the day in this League, that's what it's about," he told the Kings website. "Most goals are scored close to the net. ... You've got to pay the price to score goals or get opportunities, and right now they're doing a real good job of that and they're being rewarded."

Sit for an eternity, then try to shake off the rust against the Kings. Great- what could go wrong?

Well, that was a frustrating loss. Quick just couldn't be beat tonight.

It's hard to be that mad about this game, but it's also hard to be happy about it. I mean, it's wonderful that we basically dominated them for a large chunk of the game, but who really gives a crap about that when they're the ones leaving with the 2 points.

Chalk it up to not playing enough, and the big break, but it's frustrating when you retool to beat these teams and it feels oddly the same as before. Yes, yes, I know, it's one game, but it's the freaking Kings and I might still be bitter about the playoffs from 2 seasons ago.

They're just trying to cover all their bases early in the season- regulation loss (0 points), regulation win (2 points), SO loss (1 point).

I zonked out heading into the 3rd period. Before that, we looked really good, but as per usual when we play them, we couldn't beat Quick. Anyone else notice how all 3 Kings shooters went wrister, stick side on Elliott? Wonder if teams have noticed a weakness there. Either way, we got a point against a good team on the road. I'll take it.

Damn good game, looked like a playoff game for a little bit.
Shootout losses are always tough to take.

Am I the only one that wishes the NHL would adopt a soccer-style way of reporting the final score of a shootout? So instead of it being a 1-0 LAK win, it would read: 0-0 (1-0) final, LAK win. That way you get the proper representation of the final regulation score, the shootout results, and since shootout goals don't count as actual goals, you take them out of the final score. (Yes, I realize winning the shootout counts as 1 goal on the final at present)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't our beloved Blues only garner 2 points in all the games against California teams last season, and those 2 points being against the Kings in a 5-0 shutout solely because Quick was injured at the time? If so, we're already pacing better than that because I vividly remember Cali game 1 last season being a bashing at the hands of San Jose. So I'm content with getting the point, but not content with the lack of scoring. All those shots including in the OT and shootout and couldn't get even one past Quick? You'd think by now teams would have figured him out. The guy has to have some weakness somewhere.

Speaking of soccer-style reporting

I want to see the games worth 3 points and the only way to take all three is to win in regulation. Anything in OT or SO is a 2-1 split of the points.
